About George & Dragon
Fourteen rooms make up the George & Dragon, a historic hotel on Liverpool Road in Chester, where a restaurant built around locally sourced cuisine is as much a draw as the beds upstairs. Each room comes with its own en-suite bathroom and the option of drinks brought straight to the door, while free WiFi keeps things practical for anyone working on the road or simply catching up on messages.
Downstairs there's a bar for an evening pint and outdoor seating for when the weather allows, plus 24 hour reception for guests arriving at odd hours. The setting in Chester puts golf and fishing within reach for those wanting to get outdoors, while pubs, restaurants and entertainment nearby mean there's no shortage of options once you step outside the door.
It's a straightforward base for exploring Chester, built around solid comforts rather than excess, with a restaurant that does the heavy lifting when it comes to food.
What guests say
The location for accessing the city centre is excellent and the free parking a boon. I was disappointed that breakfast wasn't included - this should be made clearer when booking. Room was clean and tidy and bed linen fresh. Towels provided and staff did ask of we wanted the room cleaned, every second day. The bed was comfy and we all slept well. There is traffic noise but both windows had secondary glazing which dampened most of the noise. We kept the windows open to keep the room cool. Bathroom fittings a bit dated but all worked OK. Shower worked fine and plenty of hot water. Wardrobe, one bedside cabinet and one small set of drawers provided - could do with more storage. TV with DVD player and HDMI outlet provided. WiFi seemed to work reasonably well. Would not be suitable for anyone with mobility issues or wheelchair users. Bar downstairs was recently renovated and staff very welcoming, prices for drinks were reasonable. All in all it was reasonable value for money.

The room was clean and spacious, with plenty of towels. Free parking for hotel guests was a bonus as most hotels in the city don't have any parking. There was a shortage of a bedside table and I needed to request more pillows. Also no little extras that a lot of hotels provide. The hotel and bar are separate businesses and neither provided food. The location was excellent. A short walk through the underpass of a very busy roundabout and we were in the city centre, where we ate a hearty breakfast at a Wetherspoons.

Having already posted a review on booking.com I would like to add that the owner of the hotel has recently contacted me to refund the cost of breakfast that we didn’t get on our last day. He apologised for staffing problems & was very sorry. Like I said previously the staff were very polite & helpful & I wouldn’t put anyone off staying there. The location is excellent for what ever you have planned in Chester & on site parking is a bonus.

I had a brilliant stay, I booked for three nights initially, and as I arrived I was greeted by a lovely gentleman at the front desk. I was upgraded to a more premium room on the third night of my stay however needed to stay another night which was no problem and even got a discounted rate, which made my week. Both rooms were clean, warm, good sized and had all the amenities I needed. The hotel is very reasonably priced and in a great location, an 10 minute walk into the centre of Chester. Overall it was a great stay and I would definitely recommend.
