Cheshire Military Museum

Spent a really interesting and informative couple of hours at this museum. Admission is just £5 for an adult, £3 concession, £10 for a family ticket. The staff and volunteers were not only friendly and knowledgeable, they showed great enthusiasm and pride in their museum and in their city's military history. One of them took the time to explain to me the layout of the museum and what there is to see here. The first room provided an overview of the army in general and a brief history of Chester Castle, with lots of drawers containing an impressive collection of medals along with the names of their recipients. The rest of the museum then took me on a fascinating journey through the story of the Cheshire Regiment from the 1600's to the present day, their battles and campaigns around the world, and the hardships they endured. Lots of info to read, interactive displays, uniforms, weapons and personal belongings, paintings, photographs and models. Loved the lifelike scenes of events from the Regiment's history! The exhibits are well displayed and meticulously labelled. There's a realistic reconstruction of a WW1 trench, and some interesting WW2 artefacts and old film footage. The route is all on one level and is wheelchair accessible. There's also an exhibition of army vehicles in the old barrack yard. Toilets are halfway round the museum, and the small gift shop at the entrance has some interesting books. Plenty of parking close by (pay and display). I enjoyed the time I spent here and learned a great deal, but there was far too much to take in on a 2 hour visit! Will definitely come again!

It's just 5£ and they have a wide arrange of uniforms, medals, weapons, dioramas and a lot of information panels about cheshire's soldiers from 17th to present day, it took me longer than expected since every single corner has something interesting to see, nice staff, they also have a small gift shop, toilets and an inner courtyard with some vehicles and interesting stuff. Definetely worth the visit.

You know how lovely it is to walk into a place filled with the kindest of people? Definitely found that here. Plus the prices are a breath of fresh air in this economy. Huge history enthusiast, loved the uniforms and all the other lovely artifacts. Also, utterly adore that it isn't absolutely littered with screens and voice overs like most museums. It has the right about of reading, and interaction without being a sensory overload (besides the jumpscare I got from the trumpets but thats just me). Definitely great for people who know their stuff, or want to learn without stuffing your face in a book. Very personal to Chester itself. Go, Charlie!
