Rotherwood

Derwentwater sits practically on the doorstep of Rotherwood, a single-storey cottage in the village of Portinscale. The lake is reachable on foot, and from there you can take a launch, hire a canoe or simply walk the shoreline. The fells rise behind and around the village—terrain for serious hillwalking or gentler rambles depending on what you fancy. Keswick town centre is two miles away by road, or a field walk will get you there without the car.

Everything is on one floor: a sitting room with a 43-inch television and DVD player, an open-plan kitchen and dining room with an electric oven and hob, and three bedrooms—a kingsize with ensuite, a double, and a twin. The main bathroom has a bath with shower overhead. Patio doors from the kitchen lead to an enclosed garden with seating. Parking is available for three cars on site. Electricity, bed linen, towels and wi-fi are included. The property is non-smoking.

The village itself is compact. A pub and restaurant are within a minute's walk; a café and marina are equally close. For supplies, the shop is two miles away. The cottage works for families or groups of friends wanting to use the area as a base for outdoor activity, or simply to be quiet.
