Dalegarth House Portinscale is a ten-room guest house set in the village of Portinscale, just outside Keswick, with a look and feel more like a traditional Lakeland home than a large hotel. The property is adults only, which lends it a quieter, more settled atmosphere than many places in the area.
Rooms are en suite and finished in light, airy tones, with several taking in views across the surrounding fells. There's a lounge and garden with outdoor seating for unwinding at the end of the day, plus a bar for a drink in the evening. Breakfast is included, packed lunches can be arranged for days out, and Wi-Fi is free throughout. Reception operates around the clock, and free on-site parking is provided.
The setting suits walkers and cyclists, with routes for both starting close by, and fishing, golf and horse riding all available nearby. Watersports can be arranged in the area too, and Keswick itself, with its pubs, restaurants and entertainment, is a short journey from the door.

Absolutely fantastic guesthouse situated in a wonderful village of Portinscale, only a short stroll away from Keswick itself. The owners and wonderful hosts Craig and Claire couldn't have been more welcoming, helpful and extremely knowledgeable of the area. The room we had was extremely comfortable, clean and with views of the beautiful gardens. If you're looking for a perfect base to explore this part of the lake district, Dalegarth House with its charming history and brilliant hosts, you couldn't have a better place to stay.

I had such a peaceful and happy stay at Dalegarth House. It’s a place with a very warm, calm atmosphere, beautifully situated for walking and experiencing nature and the outdoors. Craig and Clare were such kind and helpful hosts, who made me feel very welcome. I hope to come back again soon.

Wow, we booked Dalegarth last minute and so pleased we did, what a gem of a find. Absolutely amazing hosts, so friendly and accommodating, what a fantastic couple. Treats on arrival, all rooms are beautifully decorated, extra warm and comfortable, views are breathtaking. Breakfast was outstanding. Thank you both for a fabulous stay, we cannot wait to return. I had a wonderful stay with Clare and Craig who couldn’t have been more helpful. A delicious breakfast and tea JUST the way I liked it! ;) Enjoyed a day on Coledale Horseshoe and a walk around Derwentwater. Thank you .
