Caerlaverock Cottages - Bankswood Cottage
Dumfries and Galloway
Photo: Google Maps
Bankswood Cottage sits within a national scenic area, surrounded by mature gardens and a stone's throw from Caerlaverock National Nature Reserve. The ground-floor layout suits families or groups wanting space without stairs: an open-plan living area with woodburner, separate dining space opening to the garden, and a kitchen equipped for self-catering. Three bedrooms (two doubles, one twin) and two bathrooms mean everyone gets their own space. The enclosed garden has a patio, summerhouse and parking for three cars.
The location is built for outdoor exploration. The Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust is a quarter-mile away, the Caerlaverock Estate's walking paths start on the doorstep, and Mabie Forest's mountain bike tracks are nearby. Fishing on the River Nith and the golf courses at Southerness are within reach, and Dumfries town centre is a short drive for shops and restaurants. Electricity, wi-fi, bed linen and towels are included, plus fuel for the woodburner. The garden has slopes and drops in places, so those with young children should be aware. One dog is welcome.
