Loch Ken draws kayakers, paddleboarders and fishers year-round, and the Galloway Forest Park—a designated Dark Sky Reserve—sits within reach for stargazing and walking. Castle Douglas, marketed as the Food Town, offers independent shops and local producers. The Red Kite Trail and nearby wildlife centre appeal to those hoping to spot otters, deer and rare birds. From the cabin, you can reach these attractions by car or on foot across the surrounding trails and cycle routes.

Cassiopeia is a handcrafted log cabin sleeping five: two king beds in separate rooms, plus a sofa bed in the open-plan living space. The kitchen is fully equipped for self-catering, with a gas hob and air fryer. A shower room with heated towel rail completes the layout, all on ground floor. Electricity, bed linen and towels are included; heating is LPG central. Parking for two cars sits on site.

The real draw is the private hot tub on your decking, overlooking the water. Floor-to-ceiling windows and large picture frames frame views across the loch. There's no smoking in the cabin. Arrival is after 4pm, departure before 10am.

Had a lovely birthday stay - child free night in the most peaceful and beautiful cabin. We were close to town, but it felt like a fairytale dream in the woods, with loch views through the trees. Saw my first otter which was so special! Lottie and her family were very welcoming and accommodating and had the hot tub ready to go for our evening. 100% recommend staying and enjoying such a beautiful part of the world.

Such a beautiful setting, the views are incredible particularly at sunset. The owners are fantastic hosts, would highly recommend, particularly the hot tub!

What a great get-away spot! We loved the big cabin windows to admire the beautiful view. The hot tub was ready for when we got there and has the most amazing backdrop of views, it’s wood fired and they don’t use any chemicals in it which is great and fits the natural vibes. The cabin had everything we needed. We found the hosts very welcoming and friendly - they have great knowledge of the local area and things to do, if staying for more than one or two nights and you want to explore. We will be back!

⭐☆☆☆☆ I would not recommend Galloway Glamping based on our experience. I booked a cabin back in October for a two-night stay in July and paid for it in full straight away. This trip was planned as a birthday surprise, so I had put a lot of time and effort into organising it. We arrived at 4pm for check-in, only to be told that our cabin had been given to someone else due to a “system error” after they changed booking systems. We were told they couldn’t ask the other guests to leave because they had already arrived and unpacked. While I appreciate that was an awkward situation for them, it wasn’t our mistake. We booked first, paid in full, and should have had priority. Instead, our birthday surprise was completely ruined before it had even begun. The options we were given were either a full refund or a voucher for a future stay. After what had happened, there was absolutely no chance we were going to book another stay, so we took the refund. We were allowed to stay in one of the pods for the night, but this was a significant downgrade from the cabin we had booked and wasn’t a substitute for the holiday we’d planned. It was also meant to be a stargazing trip, but the cabin we were placed in was surrounded by trees and we couldn’t see a thing, whereas the original cabin we had booked appeared to have a much better view. To make matters worse, we were offered use of a hot tub as an apology. We were told it was at a safe temperature to use, but when we checked it ourselves it was reading 50°C. Had we trusted what we’d been told and got straight in, someone could have suffered serious burns. That was extremely concerning and, in my opinion, unacceptable. Also, the doors were a real struggle to lock, whilst it is a quiet area, it would be ideal if the doors were easy to lock for peace of mind - it was mentioned a locksmith was coming next week however that doesn’t really solve the issue for us. Overall, the whole experience was a complete waste of time. Mistakes can happen, but this was handled very poorly from start to finish. The lack of organisation, competence and management was incredibly disappointing, especially after booking so far in advance. A special birthday weekend that had been planned for months was completely spoiled through no fault of our own. I won’t be returning and unfortunately cannot recommend Galloway Glamping to anyone.
