About Dalmore Lodge Guest House

Edinburgh's west side, within reach of Edinburgh Zoo and South Gyle, is where Dalmore Lodge Guest House makes its home on Downie Terrace. It's a small, straightforward base with five rooms, better suited to those who want a quiet spot to sleep and a good breakfast than a city-centre address.

Rooms are cosy rather than grand, with the guest house's dining room and lounge doubling as the social heart of the place, complete with a fireplace and communal tables where breakfast is served each morning. Free WiFi and 24 hour reception are provided, and free on-site parking makes it a practical choice for anyone arriving by car.

Pubs, restaurants and other eateries can be found nearby, along with entertainment options, so evenings needn't be spent in. It's a laid-back pick for visitors keen to explore Edinburgh's western fringe rather than stay glued to the Royal Mile.

A two-storey victorian guest house that is fairly close to the airport. There are bus stops nearby to take you to the city centre (about a 20min ride). There is no reception, though the owner is available through a phone call or message. You enter the main buiding and your room exclusively by 2 different codes which are sent to you before you check in. You have access to the shared facilities downstairs (kitchen, laundry, dining room) and breakfast is self service, meaning you take anything that's available then wash your dishes. If you need to store your luggage, you can do so in the dining room. It's out in the open, but there is a camera. We left our luggage for a few hours and had no problems.I only stayed one night, but overall it was a pleasant experience, no major problems.

I can’t even describe how outstanding the service was! We’ve stayed in very luxurious hotels before, but we’ve never experienced anything like this. Here, you’re genuinely made to feel at home — we were even invited to use the fridge and help ourselves to breakfast items whenever we liked. Just go downstairs and enjoy unlimited coffee and tea — such a lovely touch! On top of that, there’s access to a laundry machine, which is incredibly convenient, and even a microwave so you can warm up your own meals. It’s these thoughtful extras that really make a difference. I also had the pleasure of meeting the owner, Scott, who was such a friendly and welcoming person. He really goes above and beyond to make sure guests are comfortable. Overall, the whole experience felt more like staying in a home than a hotel, which is a huge bonus. Honestly, I didn’t want to leave — I just wish we had booked for longer than one night!

We stayed here for 2 nights in June, and we wish we could have stayed longer. Ian and Dot are the most wonderful hosts! We had great conversations and they made some excellent local recommendations. They have an amazing place and take great care of their guests. It's directly across from the zoo, close to town and the airport (about 10 minutes from each). The delicious breakfast provided is served in a gorgeous room and made us feel special just being in there. This really was an beautiful B&B, the room was very comfortable, and extremely clean. The interior design and attention to detail is too fabulous to describe and the beds were huge and very comfortable. They could not have been more welcoming or accommodating. Cannot recommend highly enough.

The Dalmore offered me complete independence in my check in and check out. A bond of trust was given between text messages and I did my best to hold my end of the bargain up. For it was a bargain for the three guest size room for four nights at the price it is. At the moment with the fringe in full flow it's very understandable prices have to go up but the Dalmore made a few compromises within its own scheduling to keep prices close to competing with a premier Inn with a lot more individuality. My only reserve is for the shower. Badly designed it flows into the hotel room if unattended. Luckily I was on hand with some towels. The only problem though. Teas and coffees on as standard and a lovely bit of TV from Freeview. The bed was more than comfortable. I nearly missed my departure time. All in all I could have been my fault about the shower and I'm not sure if it's a usual thing with hotel rooms so bear with it and your stay is going to be of your own business and freedom of movement.
