Came for dinner, not for the rooms. (We were staying next door at the Bothy Murrayfield. Wish we'd stayed here instead!). Dinner was fantastic. Quiet, calm interior, great atmosphere. Food was truly handmade and great. We had pesto pasta, very good and the pesto sauce had been hand-made by the bartender the previous day. We also had steak and ale pie, which was absolutely fantastic. Never had anything like it before! And of course the whiskey and cider were up to high Edinburgh standards and served with good cheer. Highly recommend this place! (Interestingly, I can't find any on-line presence for the restaurant -- don't let that put you off.)

Forget it. For the second time bar closing at 21.50, because there was only there was only 3 people in the bar. Staff decided thats not enough to stay open. Couldn't tell me how many people were needed to stay open though. So forget last orders at 23.00. Aint happening. No way to run a bar. If you can't sit and relax, have a drink and watch the world cup, without thinking you're in the way, really no point. Pour a good pint though. But if this is attitude, just close when food is finished..

Went to the attached pub for a beer with a friend. It was January, and zero degrees Celsius outside. But the radiators were turned off and there was a lovely fire, but not lit. The place could be so cosy, but wasn’t at all. Also, they had the radio playing over the sound system, which seemed to have a ratio of three minutes of commercials to five minutes of songs. If somebody gave the atmosphere in this place a little bit of thought, it could be really lovely. But as it is, it has some way to go.
