About voco Edinburgh Royal Terrace an IHG Hotel
Royal Terrace is one of Edinburgh's grand Georgian sweeps, and voco Edinburgh Royal Terrace an IHG Hotel occupies a handsome stretch of it, with a garden to the rear and the city's attractions within walking distance. The setting is quintessentially New Town: elegant stone frontages, wide pavements, and easy access to the transport links that make exploring the rest of the city straightforward.
Inside, the 97 rooms are well-sized and kept to a good standard, with comfortable beds, en-suite bathrooms and air conditioning, though this last isn't always dependable in warmer weather. Family and accessible rooms are available, along with drinks in room and room service for those who'd rather not venture out. Breakfast is a particular strength, with a full Scottish spread on offer alongside the usual continental choices.
Staff are consistently helpful, and the hotel caters well to practical needs with laundry and luggage storage, concierge services, and meeting rooms for business visitors. It also takes on weddings, and pets are welcome. Beyond the front door, pubs, bars and restaurants sit nearby, making it simple to spend an evening out without travelling far.
What guests say
What a great stay! Lots of things to rave about: --Lovely staff. Gave some good recommendations, welcomed us back with a smile, talked to us about the World Cup. --Clean space. Enjoyed the vibe and ambience in the lounge and bar, thought the room was well decorated and clean as well. Whatever scent they use in the lobby is terrific. --Top notch location. Quiet area right next to Calton Hill and just far away enough away from all of the main energy of the city to give you a little breather. Bit of a hill to get to the lobby, but that kind of thing builds character. --Beautiful terrace. Great spot for breakfast! Two things worth noting: --Water pressure in our shower wasn't great and our room had a tub which couldn't seal. We decided not to bring either thing up to the staff. --We heard our upstairs neighbors walk around quite a bit. Could have been noise floors or they could have been a bit heavy-footed. Would absolutely stay here again and be very happy to do so!

We stayed for 5 days in the Accessible Room with the large bathroom with roll-in shower & separate shower chair. The hotel entry has the ramps in place permanently so accessible anytime. Please be aware that Edinburgh is a city of hills & cobblestones roads so pushing a wheelchair will give your muscles some exercise. The heritage Terrace building has been modernized. It feels comfortable & relaxing. The staff were welcoming, friendly & helpful during our whole stay. The breakfast buffet & restaurant food is delicious & plentiful. The bar staff make great cocktails & good Whisky recommendations. Thankyou for making our trip of a lifetime enjoyable & homely.

This hotel proved to be a major disappointment, offering very poor value for a £500 stay. The bedroom was average quality and felt nothing like a fivestar hotel, compounded by a very weak shower and cheap toiletries. The experience was further ruined by a basic television, pubic hairs found in the bathroom, and being woken up at six in the morning by cleaners banging wheelie bins under our room. When I mentioned this at checkout and showed a photo, I was just given a very short, swift apology, and the staff made it clear they just did not care. The only positive throughout the stay was the lady in the breakfast room, who was wonderfully attentive and polite.

My family and I recently had a really lovely stay at voco Edinburgh - Royal Terrace! Every team member we interacted with was wonderful... front desk, F&B, and housekeeping all made us feel so welcome. A special mention to Kitty at check-in who was incredibly knowledgeable and made a fantastic first impression. Breakfast each morning was excellent! Fantastic spread and team members constantly bringing out fresh food and keeping everything well stocked. The bar area is really nice and relaxing to sit and have a cocktail before heading out for your evening plans. The building itself is a little older but you honestly wouldn’t realize it with how beautifully it’s been maintained. The rooms were comfortable and quite spacious. We had two rooms (one on the 3rd floor and one on the 4th) and both had fantastic views of the park out front! Overall, a wonderful stay and we’d absolutely return when back in Edinburgh.
