A small, adults-only hotel on Sandgate High Street in Folkestone, with just 7 rooms, its own restaurant and bar, and breakfast included.

About Royal Norfolk Hotel

Royal Norfolk Hotel gives breakfast and a proper bar and restaurant a central place in the stay, rather than treating them as an afterthought. Guests can eat on site without stepping out, then settle in the bar of an evening or take a drink out to the outdoor seating area. With only 7 rooms, it has the feel of a small, personally run establishment rather than a large chain hotel, and the adults-only policy adds to the quiet, grown-up atmosphere.

Rooms come with en-suite bathrooms, free WiFi and the option of drinks brought to the room, and reception is staffed around the clock for early arrivals or late check-ins. The hotel sits on Sandgate High Street in Folkestone, Kent, putting guests within reach of the town's coastal attractions and cultural sites without being in the thick of the crowds.

Beyond the hotel, there's plenty to fill the days: walking areas, golf, fishing and horse riding are all nearby, along with watersports for the more active, and a choice of further pubs, bars and restaurants for evenings out. It's a compact base that covers the essentials well, with the wider Folkestone coastline on the doorstep.

As a pub it is fine. It does feel like a lot of the character of the place has been removed but it was spotless and the staff were friendly. Good beer choice and a couple of real ales.

We stayed at the Royal Norfolk Hotel in Sandgate for 2 days and had a lovely experience. The room was cosy and well-equipped with all the necessary amenities. The hotel staff were very helpful and welcoming. The location is excellent — there's a bus stop right opposite the hotel, and the beachfront is just a 2-minute walk away. The hotel also has a bar and restaurant. We had lunch there on the first day, and the food was delicious and well-prepared. They offer breakfast, dinner, and a Sunday carvery as well, which we didn’t get a chance to try, but I’m sure they’d be just as good. Overall, a great stay — would definitely recommend!

The Sunday Carvery is wonderful. Warm and inviting restaurant and all the staff are so friendly and helpful. We live locally and never tire of coming for a Sunday lunch and today was another great family meal. Thank you all.

Sunday 27th April 4 of us visited to have the Sunday roast. We had pre-booked as it can get busy. It is done in a carvery style, you queue up and have a choice of up to 3 roast meats which are served up for you and then you help yourself to potatoes, vegetables, gravy etc. We all enjoyed our meals very much, everything was delicious! Staff were friendly and attentive. I'd say it was one of the nicest roast dinners I've eaten out in a very long time. Next time I go I'll have to try and leave room for pudding as those looked really good too!
