About No.1 Charlotte Street
No.1 Charlotte Street occupies a traditional building at the edge of Port Ellen, looking out over Kilnaughton Bay and the beach beyond, just a couple of minutes' walk from the ferry terminal. It offers seventeen straightforward, comfortable rooms alongside a public bar with a pool table and darts, giving it a livelier, more local feel than the island's country house options.
Its position at the foot of the whisky path means guests can walk from the door to Laphroaig, Lagavulin and Ardbeg distilleries without needing a car, and the bar and function room double as a genuine village pub for residents as well as guests. A large car park makes it practical for those arriving with luggage straight off the ferry.
Being two minutes from the Port Ellen ferry terminal, No.1 Charlotte Street works well both as a first stop on arrival and a last night before departure, as well as a budget-friendly base for the southern distillery trail throughout a longer stay.

What guests say
A cosy hotel in an excellent location, very close to the sea. The breakfasts were good, and having a bar downstairs was a great bonus. Overall, we had a very positive experience and would happily recommend the hotel. What truly touched us, however, was the extraordinary care and kindness shown by the owner and the entire staff when I suddenly became unwell and needed to get to the hospital in Bowmore at around 10 p.m. They did absolutely everything they could to help us during a very stressful situation. We are incredibly grateful for their support and will never forget their kindness.

An impromptu visit to Islay left us wondering whether we would find someplace to stay and No 1 Charlotte did not disappoint! Right in the middle of Port Ellen with great access to distilleries, wild areas and wonderful food options, No 1 Charlotte provided us with comfortable beds in a thoughtfully designed space and incredibly friendly service. Enjoy a lovely spread for breakfast and any Scottish fry up classics you choose (and they've even provided a fortifying and refreshing detox juice for the more whisky inclined) before heading out on any number of Islay adventures, with hospitable staff giving great tips on food and gorgeous destinations. Pop over to their pub for a fun, cosy vibe and a great selection of whisky and other libations, complete with great recommendations from Coco who is as knowledgeable about good pours as she is about must-see adventure spots. We will certainly be returning for more fun and relaxation in between our next Islay jaunts!

What an amazing B&B. situated only 5 minutes worth of walking from the ferry. The rooms are amazing and the staff was perfect. Very friendly and helpful. the breakfasts are great. order what you want and they deliver. No elevators because the building is too old for that but it was not a detractor from the stay at all. Gin and tonics in the room as well as coffee and tea and bottles of water. the Bathroom had an amazing soaking tub. If you are visiting the Isle of Islay i cannot recommend this place more. 10 stars if i could rate it that high
