Expensive for what you get and frustratingly not suited to a campervan. Only 3 bathrooms, each which have a shower, toilet and small hand basin in them, (great condition and clean by the way), but there just aren't enough to cater to everyone on site and you can't tell if they are occupied or not which caused frustration as they each have a code on them, and people forget to switch the occupied sign to vacant after visiting. There's nowhere to wash up pots and utensils other than the sinks or showers which is just a nuisance and unhygienic. Bit disappointed really.

Please read the full review. Firstly facilities are fine, price is high for what there is and the limitations on the use of the advertised facilities. Checking in we were told to report to the petrol station, we did so but to be honest this was pointless as the guy was not at all interested. The waste disposal is (presumably) grey waste uses the drain at the petrol station car wash facility. Black waste can only be accessed when the petrol station is open, so pray that your loo is not full during the night or on a Sunday. A simple solution would be a coded lock as per the toilet block. There’s no washing up area, so if you don’t have the facility in your van or don’t use it then people are washing up in the bathrooms (not the largest sink and not overly hygienic), would be simple enough to build a lean to, covered facility for pot washing. Bins could be larger, by Sunday morning the general waste bin was full. Toilet paper was also running low by Sunday morning and cleanliness was diminishing, had to clean the toilet before I could use it, thankfully there was cleaning fluid in the shower and a toilet brush. Now the main reason for the review….36 hours before our arrival we received an email (where all email addresses were not protected by blind carbon copying), informing us that there would be discos starting at 10pm and running to 1am, and a sports day. This would have been good to be told of this at the time of booking, therefore allowing us choice of changing dates or campsites, no offer of reduction of daily fee due to the expected disruption. Two nights in a row the noise and general behaviour was a lot, apparently there was security people in attendance but I question what they were doing as the partying/drinking etc appeared to be happening to the rear, side and front of the hall. No control whatsoever of alcohol induced behaviour, young guys racing back and forth doing circuits of the town in their cars, shouting and screaming. Certainly was an eye opener and not what we expected visiting Islay, definitely took the shine off of what was supposed to be a peaceful escape. The car wash is busy and noisy, maybe a hedge would deaden the noise. The park up is used as a throughway, and during the events people were back and forth, generally quite disturbing so no chance of a quiet seat outside. Having stayed at other community trust sites maybe it would be helpful to see what they are providing and doing. Great examples are Harris Community Trust and Cromarty Community Trust.

Please read the full review. This is a really nice facility that the community development company has worked hard to build up and promote. Good sized level pitches with clean toilet and shower blocks. Very effective automated check in. A great facility given the lack of reasonably priced accommodation on the island. However....it is beside the local hall and on the weekend we stayed it was the Port Ellen community games and festivities. Lots of drunk adults and teenagers - the latter drinking whisky in the street with no apparent shame from parents or community - feels like a community with absolutely no pride in place. Drinking has a sad place in the history of Islay, many of my family were fully paid up members of the drinking culture - some commemorated in local bars.( I was born here and my family roots go back a long long way ) Sad to see nothing has changed. No idea why the facility was opened during this period. The late night drinking, swearing and generally dreadful behavior of the local community made this the worst site we have ever stayed on Could be so good.....but on this weekend was terrible.
