Pets are welcome, and childcare can be arranged. What guests say
Had a fantastic stay at the Sofitel London St James. The hotel is beautiful, the room was spacious and comfortable, and the service was excellent from start to finish. A special thank you to Dennis in the bar, who made our evening so enjoyable with his friendly service and amazing cocktails. Also, a big thank you to the receptionist (unfortunately I forgot her name - sorry!) who kindly offered us complimentary drinks while we waited for our room to be ready, such a thoughtful gesture that really set the tone for our stay. We left feeling well looked after and would happily stay here again.

Checked in just a bit ago and figured I’d just go ahead and review. Stay at nice places all over the world. Difference maker to me often is staff attitude. And Sofitel brand usually delivers well. The staff here have already left an impression with their friendliness. Ryoku had a wonderful energy getting me checked and helping me fix an issue with my accor account. Sandy was very kind, showing me the hotel and my room. A very great welcome after I have encountered a string of other hotels with subpar service. And the room / hotel is very nice.

This was a deeply disappointing experience and certainly not what I would expect from a luxury hotel charging over £600 per night. First, despite it being Pride weekend, my partner and I had a very uncomfortable experience at check-in. We were asked whether we really wanted to share the room because it only had one king-size bed, and then whether we would at least like separate duvets. It quickly became clear that the receptionist did not seem to recognize us as a couple and instead treated our booking as something unusual. That was both awkward and disappointing. Displaying a large Pride flag outside the hotel means very little if staff are not properly trained to treat same-sex couples with the same professionalism and respect as everyone else. Second, the gym is frankly an embarrassment for a hotel of this category. The ceilings are so low that you can literally touch them with your hand, making it easy to hit the ceiling while lifting weights. The equipment is poorly maintained and the entire space feels neglected. For a hotel at this price point, this is simply unacceptable. The hotel has the potential to be excellent, but these two issues seriously undermined our stay. I sincerely hope management takes both inclusivity training and the condition of the fitness facilities much more seriously.
