About Z Hotel Piccadilly

Z Hotel Piccadilly is at 2 Orange Street, in the block between Leicester Square and Trafalgar Square, which is about as central as a London hotel room gets. It has 112 rooms and works on a straightforward compact-format model: the rooms are small, the beds and showers are good, and the money that would otherwise go on floor space goes into the location instead.

Rooms come in five grades. The Z Single and the Z Inside Double start from around sixty pounds; the Inside Double has no window, which suits some people and not others, and is worth understanding before booking. The Z Double from around seventy-five pounds is the usual choice, and the Z Queen at around a hundred gives noticeably more space. All rooms have air conditioning, en-suite showers, Samsung televisions with Sky channels, tea and coffee, and free Wi-Fi.

There is no restaurant, but the ground-floor cafe serves breakfast and coffee, and complimentary wine and cheese is put out in the evening - a small thing that guests mention consistently. Booking direct through the hotel's own site carries a ten per cent discount off the public rate.

The trade-off is space and quiet: this is a busy corner of the West End and the rooms are compact by any standard. What you get in return is thirty theatres, the National Gallery, Chinatown, Covent Garden and the South Bank all within a fifteen-minute walk, and no need to use the Tube at all during a short stay. For a theatre weekend it is one of the best-value central options in London.

We mainly chose this hotel for its location. It's a 5 minute walk from Picadilly Circus, but located in a quiet alley. We stayed in a windowless room and I got the best sleep of my life due to complete darkness. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Food at the bar was delicious as well! Good value for the price, we will definitely return!

This hotel is fantastic if you're a solo traveller staying one or two nights and working in Central London. The location can't be matched as 2 min walk from Trafalgar Square. The rooms are very small but functional if on your own and are living out a suitcase. The bathroom is a glass box in the room but the shower was decent pressure and nice and hot. Air-conditioning was good. I did have a window but the view was of a wall about 3 ft in front so not much of a view. I'd stay again on my own but wouldn't treat my partner to a weekend away there

The Hotel is very well located. The rooms are small which is an issue for storage and if you are spending any time there but the shower was excellent. My main issue was the air conditioning. It would not go below 18 degrees and did not appear to be working properly as it kept cutting out. You can't open the window so sleeping in the 20 degree plus heat at night was very difficult.

Wonderful service from maria. Fabulous breakfast. Other staff....Very professional and polite. Small, but very affordable rooms. Very modern, clean and comfortable One major down and one minor one: 1. ***No safety box in the room. 2. No ( small or other) exercise facility. 3.5 stars.
