What diners say
Great pub and nice atmosphere. Superb location. The service is great because of MARA ! she has a lovely nature, friendly accommodating and she goes out of her way to make you feel welcome and on top seems to work endlessly to ensure a lovely atmosphere. Cleans your table before you are seated, moves any chairs that are misplaced and will do what she can to make you feel at home and she has the most infectious smile. Staff like her want you to go back again and again. My friends go there more so because of her nature!! The pub is no doubt lovely place to go to but with staff like Mara you just don't want to leave!! Check it out !

I hadn't visited this pub for many years, but we popped in over the Bank Holiday weekend for a quick drink and a snack and ended up staying all afternoon ! The George is now a sports bar, with multiple screens - on the last day of the Premier League season, it was packed ! There is ample outdoor seating, perfect for a warm day. We hadn't made a reservation, but literally within seconds of walking into the busy bar area a smiling staff member helped us find a table in the beer garden. Bar service was friendly and fast, as was ordering and receiving our food. Everyone who we interacted with was really nice, staff and customers alike. I'd like to give a special mention to Mara, who is really good with customers, and to the chef, Martin. We'll definitely visit again the next time we're in East London !

Highly recommended Booked a table through Hazel for the England vs Congo DR, then Mexico and yesterday for the Norway game and each time the service was brilliant from her!! Our group of 6, then 8 and last night two table of 6 each, we got a great tables, with easy viewing for the many screens around the pub. The bar staff are all very cheerful and happy to help, creating a good atmosphere. Add to this that they also do table service for the drinks during the game it made the evening go really well!!

Came in today with my husband and my son (2yo) for some food. A lady with glasses told us we were not allowed to sit anywhere but the 'family area' if we had kids with us, and then proceeded to tell me that there were no seats inside so we would have to go outside. When I raised the point that there were two men each sitting alone on a table of 4 in the family area, she rudely said there is nothing she could do, that all the vacant tables in the adult section were reserved. Essentially my 2yo would have to sit in the cold outside while 2 men took up tables meant for families. Great policy you have there. Meanwhile, there was a man said he sits in the adult section with his 10 year old daughter. Needless to say we won't be coming here again. Edit: We arrived at about 3pm. It shouldn't be the case that families are unable to sit in an area specifically designated for families when there are two men sitting separately on two tables for 4 people AND it is very cold outside. They can go freely into the adult area and stand or sit. There were single chairs available and tables for an hour before reservation. It'a not a family policy if you don't enforce it on all sides.
