Highlights ● A genuine hidden gem in central London ● Free entry ● Beautiful historic building ● Exceptional collection of art, armour, furniture and decorative arts ● Well laid out and easy to navigate ● Not overcrowded compared to many London attractions ● Stunning galleries and interiors ● Fascinating collection of arms and armour ● Relaxed atmosphere that encourages you to take your time ● Excellent café set in a covered courtyard Review The Wallace Collection is one of London’s true hidden gems and, remarkably, completely free to visit. Housed within a beautiful historic townhouse, it offers an outstanding collection of art, furniture, armour, porcelain and decorative arts in surroundings that are every bit as impressive as the exhibits themselves. What struck me most was the quality and variety of the collection. One moment you’re admiring masterpieces by world-renowned artists, the next you’re standing in front of an extraordinary display of historic arms and armour. The armour galleries in particular are fascinating and among the finest I have seen anywhere in the UK. During my visit, the museum was also hosting a temporary exhibition of Winston Churchill’s paintings, which added an interesting extra dimension to the experience. Unlike many of London’s larger museums, the Wallace Collection feels calm and intimate. The layout is easy to follow, the galleries are spacious, and there is none of the rushing or overcrowding that can sometimes detract from the experience elsewhere. It allows you to slow down and properly appreciate both the collection and the magnificent building that houses it. The interiors themselves are stunning, with lavish decoration and elegant rooms that make you feel as though you’ve stepped back into another age. There is also a pleasant café situated in the covered courtyard, providing a perfect place to relax during your visit. Overall, the Wallace Collection is an exceptional museum that deserves far more attention than it receives. Whether you’re interested in art, military history, architecture or simply beautiful places, it offers something for everyone. One of the best museum experiences in London and somewhere I will happily return to.

Fabulous gallery. So well stocked and interesting. Good variety and beautifully displayed. The guides were discreet, yet helpful if you need any information. Excellent café / restaurant which is moderately pricey, but since the gallery is free to visit,it worked out fine. Highly recommend.

If you're near Baker Street, this museum should definitely be on your list. It’s about a 15 minute walk from the famous 221B Baker Street, taking you through some lovely streets with spectacular townhouses before you arrive at Hertford House on Manchester Square. The Practical Stuff: Entry is completely FREE (except for special temporary exhibitions). The venue features automatic doors, excellent wheelchair access, clean toilets, and a great cafe for refreshments. The Collection: There is an incredible variety of items here—paintings, clocks, watches, pottery, and a fantastic dedicated arms and armour room. You can easily spend two hours exploring all the different artefacts. The Vibe: The staff are welcoming, and happy to share in-depth stories about the Wallace family history. An excellent museum and would visit again!

Amazing national museum located in 18th century palatial townhouse in Marylebone 🤩 Has world-famous collections of fine and decorative arts accumulated by the first four Marquesses of Hertford and Sir Richard Wallace. This includes French art such as furniture, porcelain from Old Masters and paintings by Rembrandt, Titian, Velázquez, Canaletto. Then they are Princely, European and Oriental Armour from medieval times to 19th century. Uniquely entire collection is still displayed in the domestic setting of its original family home, without any modern glass display or labels … so really makes you feel the atmosphere of a historic private residence. And there is also a nice cafe …
