About Thornhill Farm Certificated Site

Thornhill Farm Certificated Site is a small farm campsite near Goathland, a few miles from Whitby. With only five pitches, it remains intimate and quiet – the kind of place where you are unlikely to find yourself surrounded by other campers. The scale suits those after a low-key stay rather than a social hub atmosphere.

The site has showers on hand. Given its size and rural setting on working farmland, this is a straightforward camping experience without the facilities of a larger park.

Just spent a week here. The site is a couple of miles drive away from Goathland village where Heartbeat was filmed. From the site you can walk to the village on an old disused train line which takes about 30 to 40 minutes and it’s a very pleasant walk. The site itself is small and narrow, with waste disposal and 3 water taps. There are electric hook ups. The entrance to the site is a bit tight but can be done with a twin axle. It is on a slight slope so make sure you have blocks to level your van and double steps to reach your doorway. The reception for TV is touch and go. We never got any reception for the whole week yet our neighbours got a couple of channels. The only internet we could use was EE, Sky and Vodafone had no reception at all. The views are gorgeous. The sheep are all around and there was a donkey and a mule in the next field, such a delight to see. There is nothing for children to do so would be better as an adult only site. Great for dog walks. Amazon will deliver but will leave parcel in a bin at the holiday lets at the bottom of the lane. Whitby is about 11 miles away. A lovely site for a relaxing holiday.

If you like peaceful surroundings & basic facilities, this is the place. Entrance is a little tight for our 8ft twin axle caravan but manageable. Open the gate next to the cattle grid & you get a bit more room to swing in to the entrance to the site. Elsan point & waste bins are next to the entrance & water pipe was beside our pitch. Spectacular views all around & lots of different birds, including a barn owl visiting everyday. We would definitely return here. Thoroughly enjoyed our 5 days here.

Idyllic, peaceful camp / caravan site. Just 1.5m outside Goathland, yet feels miles from anywhere. Equidistant from Whitby and Pickering, which can both be reached in about 15 min. Steam trains can be heard at bottom of the hill; maybe you can just see them, but you can see the steam and smoke as it rises above the hedges as they pass by. As for noise, you can hear the A169 in the distance in the day, but this was drowned out by the whisper of the wind in the oaks. Other than this, silence. Facilities on site are simple but adequate; decent hookup, good water pressure for filling aquarolls, very basic chemical disposal (a hole). But what more do you need? There is a toilet in a shed but this was closed on our visit 'due to the pandemic'. Very relaxing stay and will come again.
