Tarset Tor - Mercury 5

Northumberland

Photo: Google Maps

Tarset Tor – Mercury 5 is a detached timber cabin where you step straight into an open-plan living space that does all the heavy lifting. Ground floor holds the kitchen, dining area and lounge around a woodburner, with two bunk beds in an adjoining room and a toilet ensuite. Upstairs, a galleried mezzanine bedroom with a kingsize bed has its own shower room – somewhere quieter for adults to retreat while others are moving about below. The layout makes sense for a family or two couples sharing; the sleeping arrangement means six can fit, though space is intimate rather than sprawling.

Heating comes from the woodburner and electric central heating, and the essentials—linen, wifi, parking for two cars and fuel for the stove—are covered. Outside there's a garden with a firepit and barbecue, a bike store for exploring Kielder Forest, and a sitting area to use when weather permits. One dog stays free. The cabin sits beneath Tarset Tor itself, within Northumberland's Dark Sky Park, and the surrounding landscape is built for walking straight out the door into moorland or forest. No smoking indoors.
