The Writer’s Room
Northumberland
Shilbottle is a quiet village in Northumberland with direct access to the county's castles, moorland and coastal stretches. The Writer's Room sits here as a single-storey cottage, sleeping two, with everything a couple or solo traveller needs for a few days away. A local pub serving food sits within walking distance, and the village itself has the feel of a genuine working community rather than a tourist spot.
Inside, an open-plan living area with fireplace and comfortable seating leads to a kitchen equipped for proper cooking. The bedroom is double, the bathroom has a shower, and heating, electricity, wifi and bed linen are all included. Outside, a private patio garden provides space to sit with coffee or watch the evening light. One dog stays free of charge, and there is free on-street parking. The cottage is non-smoking.
From here you can reach Alnwick Castle, Dunstanburgh and Bamburgh within an hour's drive, or walk straight into countryside and along the coast. The location works equally well as a base for exploring or as a quiet place to simply be.
