About Craigard Camping and Caravan Site
Craigard occupies a modest, sloped field on the edge of Castlebay with views down over the bay to Kisimul Castle, making it the most convenient base for anyone touring the southern Outer Hebrides. Visitors praise the spotless, well-maintained facilities—hot showers included—and the friendly welcome, all at genuinely good value for money. The site's small scale suits Barra's quieter, more compact version of the island experience, and its position a short walk from the harbour, shops and pubs means an evening meal or pint doesn't require moving the car once you've pitched up.
Pitches are available for tents, campervans and touring caravans. From here, the whole of Barra and neighbouring Vatersay can be covered in a day or two, taking in the tidal beach airport at Traigh Mhòr, boat trips to Kisimul Castle, and the causeway south to Vatersay's stunning white sand beaches with turquoise water. Because pitch numbers are limited and Barra has few alternatives, calling ahead in July and August is worthwhile, especially during the island's Feis and other summer events.

What visitors say
Excellent location for small campsite, owner was very friendly. Facilities were okay but could have a little more such as a dryer/drying room. I don’t feel you should have to pay for showers when already paying for the campsite fee (most campsites don’t charge), and you only got 5 mins. Otherwise a fantastic campsite.

Wow! Beautiful site. Walk through the gate and 100 yards down the slope and you are on one of the most beautiful beaches in Europe. Stunning white sand for miles, turquoise water, fabulous sunsets. Ideal for walking and dogs. Host Derek is wonderfully friendly and super helpful. Great facilities and super clean - don’t forget your £ coins for the shower! Very highly recommended!

This is a grassy site where it is possible to get level if you are lucky. There are two showers and two toilets each for men adn women and a wash up sink in each of the small blocks. We received a friendly welcome and could choose a pitch. The showers are continous and adjustable and £1 for five minutes and they are kept clean and the site is tidy. You can walk to the beach from the site and follow a walk around the north end of Barra too.

Stayed 10th - 12th May. Really nice little site, owner Derek very welcoming, lovely facilities. We were camping and glad of a sturdy tent as it was very windy at times - there are handy windbreaks though which helped. Easy access to a glorious beach, and wonderful to hear the corncrakes.
