Scarista House stands above one of Harris's finest beaches, a former manse converted into a small, quietly luxurious guest house that has built a reputation as much for its table as for its rooms. Open fires, book-lined sitting rooms and views over the machair to the Atlantic set the tone for a stay built around slowing down.
Bedrooms are individually furnished rather than uniform, mixing antique furniture with modern comforts, and several look directly out over Scarista's sweep of sand and dunes. The restaurant, open to non-residents by booking, focuses on local seafood, lamb and game, with a menu that changes with what has come off the boats or out of the walled garden.
Its position on Harris's west coast puts Luskentyre and Seilebost within a short drive, along with the Isle of Harris Distillery in Tarbert, making it a well-placed base for a beach-and-food-focused stay rather than a jumping-off point for the wider island chain.

We stayed with friends in a 2 bedroom cottage. Whilst I would not call the rooms 5 star they do offer everything that is required. The reason you visit here is the amazing location, the sensational food and the exquisite and personal service. An amazing 4 days!!

The welcome was non existent, the food ordinary in a very cold room,the price for the mediocre offering eyewatering, and at the end no thanks for coming,just ignored as we left. Very disappointing.

I booked dinner on recommendation and review by renowned food critic. It was my wife’s significant birthday and the whole team were outstanding. Food was glorious; local fresh, simple ingredients assembled with aplomb. Pre dinner canapés served in the library, burst on the palate and making us eager for the main event. The dining rooms are tastefully done, with old world charm and elegance, making the whole experience memorable. Delightful serving staff are helpful and attentive and engaging. It’s refreshing to have such thoughtful hosts, and a set dinner menu that reflects the spirit of the island. Well done Tim and Patricia, you deserve the accolades.

My girlfriend and I visited Scarista House for dinner in August and we were both blown away. An amazing experience was had; we were moved through the house throughout the evening where we had the opportunity to chatting with different guests, each sharing stories of their travels whilst sampling various delights. The food was so delicious, with all the delights you would expect in this part of the world and they are happy to cater for any dietary requirements you may have, with notice of course. It was a high level of service throughout the entire evening. I will be returning - next time to stay I hope - and I would recommend this place to anyone
