The reception "Kates" were lovely, friendly and extremely helpful. Even to the point of carrying my luggage which was really appreciated. The servers in both the restaurant and bar were very friendly, helpful and kind. Unfortunately the kitchen didn't do so well, and I appreciate its an island and supplies can be delayed. Being coeliac I was limited and both nights my first choices were unavailable and while there was GF cereal the first morning, there wasn't the second day. The room was "cozy" but warm and comfortable although there needs to be a bit of maintenance done. I had to virtually reattach the shower head and the window catch was loose. It had every I needed.

A Tale of Two Experiences. The Pierhouse Restaurant (5/5) We had a wonderful dining experience in the restaurant. We arrived for our 18:45 booking and were seated promptly. The service was exceptional; the two female staff members were incredibly personable, attentive, and happy to answer our questions. The food was fantastic-highlights included the hot salmon salad, the mac and cheese with added lobster, the Cullen Skink, and the seafood linguine. Every dish was prepared to a high standard and was delicious. Highly recommended. The Sitting Room (1/5) We visited The Sitting Room the following evening. Unfortunately, the service in the bar/lounge area was severely lacking. After being seated, we were left for 10 minutes without being offered water or drinks. When my wife approached the bar to ask about ordering, she was told to sit back down and wait. A waiter who was clearly working in the restaurant eventually took our order. When our drinks arrived, one bottle of beer was cold, but the other was nearly room temperature. While this was rectified immediately upon us pointing it out, the service remained poor throughout the rest of our time there. While the food (beef burger and fish cake) was as high-quality as the restaurant, we received no check-backs throughout the meal, and once our plates were eventually cleared, there was no offer of dessert or further drinks. My wife ordered coffees at the bar, and while I was in the restroom, the young male server tried to take our unfinished beers away. The coffees arrived tepid despite a specific request for them to be extra hot. When we were ready to pay, staff walked past us repeatedly without acknowledgment, forcing us to go to the bar ourselves. When I raised these concerns with the staff member at the till, the response was a dismissive "sorry about that" without any interest in understanding the issues. It felt as though management was indifferent to the guest experience. Conclusion If we had experienced the lounge/bar area first, we would never return and the main reason we did return to this hotel was due to the exceptional service on the previous night. We both work in the hospitality industry, so we understand what good service looks like; how two parts of the same business can differ so drastically in standards is beyond belief. The culinary team is performing at a high level, but the front-of-house service in the bar/lounge requires significant improvement and better management oversight.

Had a takeaway on a Sunday evening. The pepperoni and seafood pizzas were huge and very tasty and the battered haddock and chips were fantastic too. The bar area was very busy so the option of a takeaway that was ready in 15 minutes was excellent. Easy free parking opposite.

Amazing excellent location first class breakfast great rooms most with good views. Well worth a stop over would highly recommend. Very helpful and friendly staff and its spotless.
