A 10-room inn on the A685 near Penrith, known for generous Sunday roasts and homemade pies as much as its beds.

About The Cross Keys Inn

Homemade pies and a well-loved Sunday roast are the reason many people first come through the door of The Cross Keys Inn, a small pub hotel on the A685 near Penrith, Cumbria, with the Lake District within easy reach. The kitchen also turns out steaks in generous portions, served in a bar that has the warm, worn-in feel of a proper local rather than a chain.

There are 10 en-suite rooms, straightforward and comfortable rather than showy, with free WiFi and drinks available in room. Breakfast is served on site, and beyond the bar there's a restaurant, a snack bar, and a garden for quieter moments. Free on-site parking makes it an easy stop for drivers, and pets are welcome.

Staff are attentive and quick to help, which regulars mention alongside the fair pricing for what's on offer. The surrounding area suits walkers and cyclists, with further pubs and eateries nearby for anyone wanting to explore beyond the inn's own kitchen.

Fantastic pub for a Sunday lunch, they made space for us on a very busy day which was much appreciated. The food was excellent as was the service and I would highly recommend a visit but booking is recommended.

We stop for food here every year while on our holidays. Absolutely delicious food and very friendly and attentive service no matter how busy they are. This pub is dog friendly which is a bonus for us, we ordered slow cooked Lamb shoulder with colcannon and veg , hubby had steak pie and chips. All the food was homemade and plenty of it we couldn’t fit dessert in . Will definitely be back

We had lunch at The Cross Keys last week when visiting Penrith. Great food, service, and atmosphere. I had the flat bread pizza and it was outstanding. Our server was very kind. This pub has a great atmosphere with seating inside and outside. Great selection of food and drinks on the menu. We really enjoyed our visit. Thank you!!

Such a lovely pub, with great staff and very good food. Received a friendly welcome and did not have long to wait before our order was freshly served. Inside of the pub is quaint with a friendly atmosphere and there is also outdoor seating for the warm sunny evenings. The pub has its own car parking and toilet facilities. It can also accommodate anyone with restrictions and or disabilities. I would certainly visit again when in the area.
