My partner and I stayed here for a few days in May 2026. We really enjoyed our stay here and would 100% stay here again. We have the privilege of holidaying inside of school term times, so it was quite quiet and a nice atmosphere around the hotel. The building itself is quite old (circa 1933) and we found that within the room we had there is a lack of plug sockets. This is by no means a criticism, but for future visitors maybe pack an extension lead or be prepared to share a couple of plugs between you. The staff are very friendly and extremely helpful and they had a hand in making the stay as pleasant as it was. The food is unreal and worth having and with our room we added breakfast for each day of our stay. The breakfast is really good value for money and expertly cooked. Each room gives an amazing view, whether that be sheep grazing or Plymouth in the distance. The hotel itself is also located in such a way, that there are plenty of routes into and out of Dartmoor if you want to explore. This is a good example of a proper family run hotel tucked away on the border of Dartmoor national park, not to be overlooked.

I liked everything about the hotel and really enjoyed my stay. I had a great room with a view of the Moors. The location is amazing, the staff were super friendly and helpful and the food was superb. There's also a nice bar area with comfy couches and a huge TV for the sport. I would of been happy spending the morning reading there. I look forward to going back. 10/10.

What a fantastic little hotel! The breakfast is good, the staff are incredible and so friendly. The views and location are spot on for a weekend traipsing around the moors. If you're looking for the Ritz, this isn't the hotel for you. But if you want a small family run hotel with comfy beds, good food, parking, sheep, warm showers and in a wonderful location, this is the perfect base. Yes, it's a little run down, but that's exactly what I like, so I can't fault the place. 10/10! Keep doing what you're doing Moorland hotel staff! We'll be back! Had a family lunch in the restaurant and would like to praise the attention given to us and the quality of the food - both excellent. Can recommend this as a venue for a meal out. We will return!
