Bramley Cottages - Russett Cottage

Photo: NannaKath Ray

Built into a 200-acre working sheep and fruit farm in the Tillingham Valley, Russett Cottage is a traditional property that puts you at the heart of the Kent and Sussex countryside. The whole cottage is yours for the duration of your stay. A ground-floor open-plan space holds the living area, kitchen and the first bedroom, while upstairs there's a second bedroom with galleried space. The layout works for families or groups of four, with a double bed downstairs and two singles up; one bathroom serves the cottage. An enclosed terrace with lawn, garden furniture and a barbecue looks out over the fields.

The kitchen has what you need to cook properly—electric cooker, microwave and fridge-freezer—plus a washing machine. Electricity, bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi are included. Freeview television, DVDs and a DVD player are in the living room if you want quieter evenings. One small dog is welcome on this sheep farm; there is a fenced pond 50 yards from the cottage, which you should be aware of. Parking for two cars is on site.

Walking starts from the door, with public footpaths connecting the farm to the wider countryside; spring brings lambs under apple blossom. Rye, the ancient Cinque Port town, is within easy reach for its cobbled streets, galleries and views across Romney Marsh. Beaches at Winchelsea lie 3 miles away. Local attractions include Bodiam Castle, Sissinghurst Gardens, Battle Abbey and Bedgebury Pinetum. A pub and shops are 2 miles distant.

Delightful cottage. Rye, Sissinghurst, Camber, Rye Nature Reserve all easily assessable. Would recommend King's Head for food.

We had a lovely stay here, Lisa was very welcoming and advised us on places we should visit! We took a beautiful walk through the sheep fields into rye. Lots of nature on site and we liked seeing the family team out working the land . Accomodation was good for the price. Highly recommend!
