About Medehamstede Hotel
Shanklin's beach, restaurants and pubs are all within easy walking distance of the Medehamstede Hotel, making it a straightforward base for exploring this part of the Isle of Wight. The Continental Ferry Terminal is also nearby, useful for those arriving or departing by sea.
The hotel has 52 rooms and public spaces including a restaurant, bar and garden, along with a lift, air conditioning and free WiFi throughout. There are meeting rooms and a wedding venue on site, plus porter and concierge services for guests who want a bit of extra help with luggage or arrangements. Breakfast is served daily, and free on-site parking is available, which is a practical bonus given the town centre location.
Guests have generally found the food and rooms comfortable, and the location convenient for reaching the seafront and local eateries. Some have noted that parts of the hotel show their age and could benefit from updating, so those wanting the newest fittings should bear this in mind. For most, though, it works well as a well-placed spot to come back to after a day out in Shanklin.

Spending 4 nights here on a coach holiday. Great value little place to stay for exploring the island. Very homely reception area, stairs, hallways and rooms. For me though, top marks has to go to the restaurant and catering staff, who really are good at what they do. For example, me being a vegetarian I requested a vegetable curry one night when chicken tikka was one of the options for the main course. Not a problem for them, and very nice it was too. There are usually 3 options for starter, main, and dessert. There is also a bar and lounge room, with a singer on some nights. Please note there is no lift access to the upper floors, although the stairs are wide, carpeted, and not steep. There is also a portering service available if you need it. There is tea and coffee making facilities in the rooms, the rooms are cleaned every day, and the beds are quite comfortable. My only slight issue is the ceilings are quite thin, so if there is someone clumsy staying in the room above, it may do your head in (Like it did me!) And you can hear them walking around. But that's more down to inconsiderate people than any fault of the hotel. I didn't bother raising the issue with reception though, as my stay is only short, and everything else about it has been excellent...Even the weather has been glorious, so can't complain! It's worth mentioning also that the area is very quiet and safe. Would definitely stay here again, albeit in a top floor room next time 😁

This hotel completely failed to meet our expectations. We paid almost 500 for two rooms and ended up having one of the most frustrating hotel experiences we have ever encountered. The manager’s attitude was, in our opinion, unacceptable. We felt spoken to disrespectfully and did not feel valued as guests. Good customer service can often make up for other issues, but unfortunately that was not the case here. My family and I were extremely disappointed with how we were treated. If management wishes to improve the reputation of this hotel, I believe they should seriously review how guests are being handled and how complaints are addressed.

I had to cut my stay from 7 days to just 1 night, as could not balance on the very bad flooring in the property by the end my balance was so severe it was like being drunk but without the alcohol, I would not recommend this property if like myself you have severe mobility issues or worse.

First week in September 2025 rooms 5 and 8 Our stay here was great. Food is first class, and the waitresses were just lovely. The rooms are clean. Hot water and shower was perfect. All staff are so friendly and helpful, nothing too much trouble. Lovely peaceful gardens to sit have a drink or cup of tea. Would visit again - thank you all xx
