About Storm in a tea cup

Storm in a tea cup is a small guest house set on Ayr in St Ives, with a character that leans more boutique than traditional bed and breakfast. The interiors have been given a stylish, considered decoration throughout, and the rooms are kept spotlessly clean, each with an en-suite bathroom and a good-sized fridge, along with in-room drinks including complimentary beers and reliably good showers.

Beyond the bedrooms, guests have use of a garden, a picnic area and outdoor seating, along with 24 hour reception and free WiFi. Freshly baked croissants are provided, and the on-site team are known for being welcoming and generous with local recommendations. Family rooms are available for those travelling with children.

One of the property's most useful features is its free on-site parking, a genuine rarity in St Ives. From here, the beaches, art galleries and local attractions of St Ives are all within easy reach, and the surrounding area offers walking, cycling, fishing, horse riding, watersports and golf, plus nearby pubs, bars and restaurants for evenings out.

It's been quite some time since we've felt such genuine hospitality from a host. In fact, I can't recall ever feeling so welcomed before. Joby was absolutely fantastic. From thoughtful recommendations for dining options to delightful surprises like croissants and Easter eggs on Easter Monday, not to mention a cheeky gin, every detail was meticulously taken care of. We followed Joby's recommendations and were delighted with every place we visited. The room itself was comfortable, spotlessly clean, and exuded a cozy charm. Already looking forward to our next stay!!

We came to Storm in a Teacup for a friend’s celebration in St Ives, and I was genuinely relieved to find somewhere for just one night that didn’t require remortgaging the house. In fact, we nearly drove home after the party because we questioned how good somewhere under £100 a night could really be. I’m very glad we didn’t. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed by the owner Joby, who was friendly, helpful, and clearly takes real pride in what he’s created. The room was spotlessly clean, stylishly decorated, and had everything you’d expect from somewhere charging far more, including a sea view. Free parking right outside is a rarity in St Ives, even among the top hotels. The shower was excellent, the TV a great size, and the king size bed with a firm, comfortable mattress meant we slept brilliantly. Plenty of towels, a good sized fridge with free beers, plus ice and glasses on arrival. All thoughtful touches that make a difference. Joby also recommended a taxi for the evening, though honestly, we nearly skipped the party altogether because the room was that nice. The next morning, we were sent off with freshly baked croissants and a lovely poster keepsake with a handwritten thank you on the back. A genuinely memorable touch. As someone who runs hotels and resorts, I don’t say this lightly. This place outperforms many of the top hotels in St Ives on service, cleanliness and overall experience, at a fraction of the price. Stay here once and you will question why you ever paid more anywhere else.

We can’t say enough about how fantastic our stay was at Storm in a tea cup! Joby is such a welcoming host; he gave us great recommendations for restaurants and things to do both in St Ives and across Cornwall. The room was lovely, the bathroom was super clean, and your room even comes with a parking spot! Joby is super responsive and he even left us water and beer in the fridge. Plus, the location can’t be beat, it’s an easy walk to restaurants and the beaches. We would 100% recommend to anyone!

Good location about a ten minute walk from the harbour at St Ives (15 minutes back as it is uphill). We had room 4 which has a good sea view and gets the sunrise. Sufficient space in the modern bedroom, with the advantage of a small table and two chairs. Fridge as well, with two beers in on arrival, plus coffee and tea etc. Breakfast not provided, but plenty of places in St Ives, or take / buy your own. Good shower room with toilet and handfasting. Parking available close by. Friendly host.
