Great Langdale spreads out around Ambleside, a working village in the Lake District National Park where hills rise steeply on all sides. Langdale Cottage sits on elevated ground here, a semi-detached bungalow recently renovated, with a steep slope leading up to the entrance and private car parking. Once inside, the split-level layout opens into a combined living and dining space, furnished with a smart TV and overlooking the gardens and valley beyond.
The kitchen is equipped for proper cooking—electric oven, hob, microwave, dishwasher and fridge—so you can eat in or venture out to the pub within walking distance. Upstairs are two bedrooms: one with a double bed, one with twin beds suitable for children. A walk-in shower room serves both. The cottage includes Wi-Fi, heating, bed linen and towels. One dog is welcome. No smoking indoors.
The village has a shop for basics and sits at the mouth of several walking routes, including paths down to Elterwater and riverside trails through the valley. Ambleside, a larger market town with restaurants and shops, is close by road. This is a place to arrive after 4pm and leave by 10am, leaving your car parked while you explore on foot.

Langdale cottage was truly lovely, we really enjoyed our stay there Really clear instructions on how to find it, great communication with the host You do go up a really step hill in your car But even the car park is amazing, it looks like it’s been a old slate mine The key was in the key safe on entering the cottage You go straight into the kitchen, which is really well equipped, modern and well thought out in its planning & design Really nice Le Creuset tea pot and Cafetière Good quality mugs, plates etc you can definitely do a big shop on your way as there is a full sized built in fridge freezer, Oven, stove and built in microwave There are clear instructions on how to use these in the welcome book Then you go into the living room which was warm and cosy and wow the view through the patio doors Really light with the sky light window There is an upstairs too a nice wide staircase with a handrail two single beds perfect for children The bathroom nicely decorated tile flooring Sink, toilet and a big walk in shower which was fantastic no loss of pressure or shocks with cold water just a lovely warm shower The main double bedroom which is downstairs next to the kitchen Is small, but easy excess on both sides, but near to the walls, myself and my husband are small in height and stature and managed fine The bed is super comfortable after long walks through the day I was fast asleep as soon as my head touched the pillow The garden is shared with the other cottages But we had no problems, we took our two dogs with us, There are some amazing walks right on the door step on the cottage weather you wanted to go up onto the fells or more level walks It’s also a good central location for exploring the rest of the Lake District There is a lovely local shop it states it’s a coop which it does sell there products, but it also sells an abundance of other goods it’s well worth a look around, you can walk to it from the cottage, either by the road or there is a lovely footpath just across the road from The cottage which also leads you to the Wainwrights pub All in all we have booked again for next year, we believe we have found a hidden Gem in Langdale Cottage and we can’t wait to return

This is a fabulous cottage in a perfect location and the views are fantastic. It is very cozy, warm, well equipped, very clean and peaceful. We were there for 11 days and did not need the use of the car as everything is on the doorstep. A walkers and cyclist paradise. Personally the Langdales are my favourite place in the Lakes. So to find this great cottage was a bonus. So good we have booked it again for 2027

We loved our time at Langdale Cottage, the location is amazing, tucked away but very close by to a shop, cafe and pub. The views are unbelievable and with many walks straight from your doorstep, it's the perfect retreat for a couple to spend a week exploring this area of the lake district.
