Couples and solo travellers will find Oak Cottage suits a peaceful retreat in the Lake District. The property occupies a quiet corner of a working Lakeland farm, positioned high above Ambleside with views across Stockghyll Valley towards Lake Windermere. You have the entire cottage to yourself: a one-bedroom, one-bathroom base that sleeps two, with a double bed and a living room where you can settle by the woodburning stove. The kitchen is fully equipped for cooking, and essentials like heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and wifi are all included.
Walking is the main draw here. Paths onto the fells start from the property itself, and the surrounding landscape is home to Herdwick sheep, Highland cattle and buzzards. The night sky is notably dark and clear—good for stargazing. The cottage sits on a private track accessed via its own entrance; parking is available for two cars. A shared courtyard and grounds of about a quarter acre come with your stay. Note that the water supply comes from a natural spring, and electric vehicle charging is not possible at the property. Non-smokers only.

Remote location but only a mile from Ambleside, up "The Struggle". Fantastic views of the valley overlooked by Wansfell Pike (Baystones), the cottage is surrounded by sheep, cows, rabbits and Highland Cattle. The cottage interior is pleasant, clean and has a woodburning stove. The kitchen, which looks modern and new, has plenty of cutlery, utensils, pots and pans. The bedrooms are comfortable and the bathroom has a bath and shower that work reasonably well. Can't ask for more from a short summer break for the family.

Bed is soft and the entrance is missable. A bit out dated but great views and I love the cows and sheep.. They are great to wake up to.
