Shambles Cottage
Westmorland and Furness
Ambleside sits at the foot of the Lake District fells, surrounded by mountains and water that draw walkers and outdoor enthusiasts year-round. Shambles Cottage is a slate-fronted terraced property in the heart of the town, a minute's walk from shops, cafés and restaurants, yet positioned on a quiet back street. The pub is within half a mile. Unloading at the door is possible, though parking for two cars is kept half a mile away.
The cottage has two bedrooms, each with a pair of single beds, and one bathroom with a bath and shower. Downstairs, a living and dining room with a 32-inch TV opens onto a separate sitting room without a television—useful if some of you want to retreat while others watch. The kitchen is well-equipped: electric oven, gas hob, dishwasher, microwave, fridge and freezer mean you can prepare proper meals at the polished wooden table. WiFi and heating are included, along with bed linen and towels. Note that the property has steep or narrow stairs between floors, and children under 5 are not able to stay.
From here, Stockghyll Falls is a short walk, Grasmere village is nearby, and Windermere ferries leave from Waterhead. The surrounding fells offer serious climbing and walking in all directions; the Lake District National Park is essentially on your doorstep.
