About The Elleray
Cross Street sits at the heart of Windermere, with the station nearby and the surrounding Lake District countryside, including Brockhole, within easy striking distance. The Elleray occupies this spot as a small pub-hotel with just seven rooms, offering a proper base for exploring the fells and the lake without straying far from the town's own pubs and restaurants.
Rooms come with en-suite bathrooms, air conditioning, free WiFi and drinks, and there's a lift serving the hotel's two floors along with accessible rooms for those who need them. Downstairs, the restaurant and bar are the real draw, with hearty pub classics such as steak pie and fish and chips, a good range of beers, and staff who keep the atmosphere friendly and the prices reasonable given the generous portions. That said, the kitchen doesn't always get it right, and preparation can be inconsistent.
Beyond the dining room, the property offers a garden, room service, laundry and porter services, meeting rooms for those combining business with the trip, and free on-site parking. Pets are welcome, and with the station close by and the wider Lake District attractions within reach, it suits both a short town stay and a longer base for walking country.

What guests say
We had a fantastic experience at the Elleray. Ben and Kacz were incredibly helpful and friendly, making us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. The food was impeccable—full of flavour and clearly prepared with care. Service was prompt throughout, which really added to the overall experience. The ambience was wonderful, with a great atmosphere, and everything was clean and well looked after. The whole place had amazing vibes. We’ll definitely be coming back soon.

Me and my partner came here for some lunch. We both decided to go for the bbq pulled pork and coleslaw baguette which was very tasty. They didn't skimp out on the fillings either and for £7 each, we thought that was good value for money.

Ordered the chicken strips after a long drive and they were genuinely some of the worst I’ve had — burnt, greasy, and about 80% batter to 20% chicken. I politely mentioned it to staff, not asking for a refund or replacement, just giving feedback, but was basically told “that’s just how battered chicken is” and that there was nothing wrong with them. Disappointing food is one thing, but dismissive service when giving honest feedback made the experience much worse. The pub also looked like it hadn’t been hoovered in 3 weeks.

Some reviews mention the food can be poorly prepared.
