Askham Bryan sits west of York, far enough out to feel genuinely rural yet close enough that the cathedral city is a quick drive away. Blacksmith's Cottage is a brick-built house on two floors, sleeping five across three bedrooms: a single on the ground floor, a zip-and-link super kingsize on the first floor (which can be set up as two singles), and a double. The ground floor also has a living and dining room with doors onto an enclosed, lawned garden with a paved patio area; the first floor has a shower room and separate toilet downstairs. Bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi are provided, along with oil central heating and electricity.
The kitchen is equipped for self-catering with an electric oven, ceramic hob, microwave, fridge-freezer and washing machine. There is parking for two cars on site. One dog or cat can stay free of charge. The garden tends to be the real draw for families—there is space for children to move about and explore—and visitors with dogs similarly report making good use of the outdoor space. The cottage does not permit smoking indoors.
