The Judge's Lodging

I just wanted to take the time to leave a review following our visit today (19th July) for my son’s 16th birthday. Firstly, thank you so much for fitting us in. We booked the day before, and despite there being 11 of us plus two dogs, everything was organised really well. You also catered for dietary requirements and a food allergy without any issues, which we really appreciated. I’d especially like to mention Thomas, who looked after our table. He was brilliant from start to finish and is a real credit to your team. I really hope this feedback gets passed on to him. I’d sent a pre-order over beforehand with a few amendments to some of the meals, and every single one was done exactly as requested. The food came out hot, was really well presented and tasted lovely. Thomas was friendly, approachable and professional throughout. Nothing was too much trouble, he recommended some great drinks, and he made sure everything ran smoothly. I’d also taken in a birthday cake and asked if it could simply be brought out with the candles, but without any singing or fuss as that’s what my son wanted. Thomas did exactly that, then brought us plates and even cut the cake up for everyone, which was such a lovely touch and something not every restaurant offers. We all felt really welcome, and the service genuinely made my son’s 16th birthday that little bit more special. Thank you again to everyone who looked after us before and during the occasion.

Lovely hotel with beautiful unique rooms. Perfect location. Friendly staff. It’s a very stylish hotel within a renovated old building with each room being individually styled. We loved it. Nice breakfast - maybe more limited choice than some but they went for quality rather than quantity- for example the pastries were delicious and they put out just enough so they didn’t go stale or dry. The cooked food was excellent. The only reason I’ve not given five stars is the lack of aircon (it just happened to be quite hot for May) and the outside areas were really busy as bank holiday weekend and Pride weekend so a bit noisy and we had to keep windows open. Not a huge problem to be fair. We had a lovely time and York is just so beautiful.

This was our 2nd stay at the Judges (9 yrs apart!), and once again we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The entire building exudes historical and architectural charm, is beautifully furnished and maintained. Our room (the Judges Room, no. 1) was spacious, comfortable, clean and quiet (there is "street noise" in this popular city area at night, but this wasn't an issue, as the windows were not open). Staff was friendly and professional, breakfast service was very good in presentation and quality (we had dinner commitments elsewhere, but suspect it would have been great here, too). We would definitely return to the Judges!

The location was perfect for exploring the city center of York. Everything you would want to see is within a 10 to 20 minute walk. The room was lovely, a little warm but that was too be executed during the summer. Staff seemed judgy but they may just not like Americans right now. I get it. All in all, it was a wonderful experience.
