Ardoe House Hotel & Spa

Stayed overnight at Ardoe House with my family in two adjoining rooms, and unfortunately the experience fell short of expectations. This hotel once had a reputation for luxury, but it’s clear it has seen better days and is now in real need of updating. On arrival, one of our rooms had an extremely strong smell of weed. I contacted reception and, to their credit, they moved us to another room straight away, though it meant being separated from my wife and child. The rooms themselves look nice at first glance, but the wear and tear is hard to miss. Stained carpets and furniture, scuffed walls, and ageing décor all contribute to a tired feel. The bathrooms are similar — the shower enclosure in my wife’s room had noticeable black mould around the frame, which really shouldn’t be present in a hotel at this price point. Lighting was another drawback. The rooms were dim and very orange, creating a dated atmosphere. In more modern hotels, brighter spot lighting gives a cleaner, fresher feel, but here large areas of the room felt dark. Breakfast was the highlight, with plenty of choice and good quality food, but it wasn’t enough to offset the issues with the stay. Overall, I wouldn’t choose to stay here again. For the price paid, there are better, more modern options available in the city.

My stay at Maryculter House Hotel was exceptional from start to finish. The rooms were beautifully appointed, blending historic charm with modern comfort. Everything felt thoughtfully designed — from the cosy bedding to the spotless bathrooms — creating a space that was both luxurious and welcoming. The service was truly outstanding. Every member of staff went above and beyond to make the experience special, offering warm hospitality that felt personal without ever being intrusive. Whether it was helpful recommendations, attentive dining service, or simply a friendly conversation, the team made me feel genuinely cared for throughout my stay. The location is absolutely stunning. Nestled along the River Dee, the hotel offers peaceful views and a sense of tranquillity that’s hard to find elsewhere. It’s the perfect base for exploring the surrounding countryside, yet still close enough to Aberdeen for convenience. Waking up to the riverside scenery each morning was a highlight in itself. Overall, Maryculter House Hotel delivers an unforgettable combination of comfort, service, and setting. I can’t recommend it highly enough — a true five‑star experience. We had a lovely one-night stay at Ardoe House Hotel & Spa in Aberdeen as two couples, staying in two separate rooms. From the moment we arrived, the check-in and check-out process was smooth and efficient, making everything very convenient. Both rooms were spacious, with very comfortable beds and newly refurbished bathrooms, which added a fresh and modern feel. The leisure facilities were a real highlight — the swimming pool was nicely heated, and we thoroughly enjoyed the jacuzzi, sauna, and steam room for a relaxing experience together. The cosy bar was another great touch, with a friendly and cheerful bartender who made the evening even more enjoyable. Breakfast the next morning offered a good spread of delicious options, and the staff throughout the hotel were welcoming and attentive. The only area for improvement would be a bit more attention to cleanliness in the corridors and rooms. Aside from that, it was a very pleasant stay, and we would definitely recommend it.

My partner and I stayed for one night and overall enjoyed the hotel. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable, breakfast was excellent with a great buffet selection and the grounds were lovely. Staff were pleasant throughout our stay. Unfortunately, the spa was a huge let down. The changing rooms were poor quality with a basic plastic garden chair to sit on in the actual changing room. There was sweet wrappers, litter and clumps of hair on the floor and dust on the hand dryer. The showers smelled unpleasant and felt like they lacked privacy and the sauna looked poorly maintained with rotten / black looking wood and water pooling on the floor instead of draining in the drain. There were also paper cups left around the pool. This was all present whilst staff walked through the area. It just felt dirty and we cut our time at the spa short as a result. It's a shame because the hotel itself was great but the cleanliness and upkeep of the spa really was a let down for the whole experience.
