Ambleside sits among the fells and footpaths at the head of Windermere, a natural gathering point for walkers, cyclists and anyone drawn to the Lake District's water and hills. On Church Street, in the middle of it all, 2 Cambridge Villas offers a small, straightforward base for exploring the area, with just five rooms spread across three floors.
Rooms come with en-suite bathrooms and family options are available for those travelling with children. Breakfast is included to set guests up for the day, and packed lunches can be arranged for anyone heading out onto the trails. There's a garden and outdoor seating for relaxing at either end of the day, luggage storage for early arrivals or late departures, and a 24 hour reception to keep things flexible. Free parking is available nearby, useful given the guesthouse's town-centre position.
Pubs, restaurants and eateries are all close by, so evening meals are easy to sort out without needing a car. Ambleside itself is well suited to cycling and walking, and watersports are on offer in the surrounding area for those wanting to get out onto the lake as well as onto the fells.

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at 2 Cambridge Villas and couldn’t recommend it more highly. The location is perfect — right in the heart of Ambleside — making it incredibly easy to explore the town, with convenient parking close by. Our room was spotless, spacious, and wonderfully cosy, providing the perfect place to relax after a day out in the Lakes. The amenities were fantastic too, with everything we needed for a comfortable and enjoyable stay. Breakfast was a real highlight each morning. Whether you prefer a hearty full English or a lighter continental option, everything was freshly prepared and absolutely delicious. But what truly made our stay unforgettable was Rod. He was so warm, welcoming, and helpful from the moment we arrived. His hospitality made us feel genuinely at home, and it’s clear he puts his heart into running the bed & breakfast. We would happily stay here again and recommend it to anyone visiting Ambleside. A truly brilliant experience!

Our hosts Rod and Kate were both very welcoming, helpful and friendly and keen to ensure we enjoyed our stay and had all we needed. We booked the family room (ensuite) and our youngest son was staying with us – which was ideal for us. Our room and the B&B in general was clean and tidy. The breakfasts were nice, with a good range of options and to order to suit each guest together with a range of times to eat (with the option for special requests when needed) – which was ideal for us. The B&B is very centrally located with easy access to local amenities, shops and restaurants a short walk away. We managed to park overnight in Church Street when we arrived (in the dark) and used the parking pass at the Football Club during our stay, which was only a short walk away. We enjoyed our stay very much and would definitely consider a return visit in the future and recommend to friends, family and others.

My partner and I stayed in the cosy room at 2 Cambridge Villas. Our stay was absolutely wonderful! Our host, Rod, was so friendly and was incredibly knowledgeable about the local area, including which hikes were worthwhile. Our room was small, but had everything you could possibly need - a super comfortable bed, excellent water pressure in the shower, and a handy hairdryer. I would highly recommend this charming B&B if you're looking for a welcoming host, a delicious breakfast, and a picturesque village right at your doorstep!

This quaint little Bed and Breakfast was absolutely amazing. Rod was truly a pleasure to talk to and his hospitality shines. His scrambled eggs were delicious, highly recommend. He made sure we had everything we needed at check in, during breakfast, and bid us farewell at checkout. You must stay here, it is the perfect spot!
