About The Temperance Inn

A traditional three-storey inn on Lake Road, The Temperance Inn keeps its old character while offering 26 rooms in the heart of Ambleside. It's a solid base for the Lake District, with the sort of village setting that puts walking routes, cycling paths and the shores of Lake Windermere within easy reach.

Rooms are en-suite and well-equipped, with family rooms available and drinks provided in-room, and the kitchen and 24-hour reception mean guests aren't tied to fixed hours. The restaurant serves hearty breakfasts and a varied menu, kids' meals and packed lunches are catered for, and there's a bar on site, though drinks there tend to be on the pricier side. Staff are attentive and the place is kept spotless throughout.

Pets are welcome, making it a good choice for those travelling with dogs, and the surrounding area offers golf, fishing, watersports and plenty of pubs and restaurants nearby. There's no parking on site, so onward travel plans should factor that in.

I recently stayed for a night and had an amazing experience. The room was spotlessly clean and super comfy, plus the fan was a nice touch. From the warm greeting at check-in to the smooth check-out, the service was friendly and personable. I didn't get a chance to eat their food, but everything else was top-notch. I’ll definitely be back next time I’m passing through!

Nice enough, fairly modern pub almost in the centre of Ambleside. The food is very varied, with some Oriental choices on the menu. Very tasty. A pleasant environment, good for watching sport, the World Cup was being shown on my visit. Dog friendly.

Fabulous service and food for our family of 21 on Thursday 23rd July ‘26. Full marks to the (Geordie?) guy who looked after us so well. (Not an easy task with so many orders). Nothing was too much trouble for him and it was much appreciated. Our long awaited family reunion was perfect 🤩

We had a great week in Ambleside and I think we tried all of the best pubs in the town! However we avoided The Temperence as the name suggests it’s an alcohol-free establishment. Sorry if that’s wrong, but if not then it’s a silly name to pick. We couldn’t see anything in your website under “food & drink” to say what kind of beers are sold.
