Bowmore House was one of the highlights of our stay on Islay. It was a charming home that immediately felt welcoming and provided an excellent base for exploring the island's world-famous whisky distilleries. What we loved: The home has plenty of character and is exceptionally charming. Excellent location with easy access to the island's major distilleries. Complimentary coffee was a nice touch for starting each morning. The private whisky available for guests was a thoughtful and uniquely Islay welcome. The kitchen was well-equipped and made preparing meals easy. Overall, the home had everything we needed for a relaxing multi-day stay. What could be improved: The mattresses are ready for replacement and could be more comfortable. The self-catering home is right next to the road, so if you have the windows open, you may hear some road traffic late into the evening (around 10 pm when it stops) and early in the morning around 6:30 am. The laundry facilities worked well, but clearer instructions on the best way to dry clothes would have been helpful, especially for travelers staying several days. Overall, Bowmore House exceeded our expectations. Its charm, thoughtful amenities, and outstanding location far outweighed the minor issues we encountered. We would absolutely stay here again on a future visit to Islay.

I wish I had taken more photos, but I cannot overstate how much we loved Allison and Andrew, our hosts. We were there with a group of 11. They welcomed us with a dram and a printed itinerary. They are both SO accommodating and kind. Our group was so large we filled all of the rooms - all our breakfasts (even the "lighter" one) were delicious and generously portioned. Including a generous breakfast dram- and a welcome dram when we checked in! Andrew is very entertaining and interesting. They both also had excellent rapport with our guide Moray. The property itself has beautiful views and is within walking distance of anything you could want in Bowmore- the shore, Peatzeria, Lochmore Hotel, the Bowmore Hotel, the co-op, the church, the pharmacy, etc. Views from inside their large windows facing the water are stunning.

We stayed there for a couple of nights with my husband, and we absolutely loved it. The host and hostess were incredibly kind 😊 I loved the atmosphere , they truly go above and beyond to make us feel comfortable. The breakfast was amazing and very generous, with plenty of options, and of course, a dram of Scotch at breakfast! My husband was delighted to discover this new tradition. I also got to enjoy the most beautiful sunsets from our room. If we ever go back to Islay, we would definitely stay there again.

An absolutely brilliant stay. The host was incredibly welcoming, and the room was spotless. The home-cooked breakfast was also fantastic. I want to say a massive thank you to the host. I was facing a real logistical nightmare due to the sudden ferry cancellation, but he went completely above and beyond to help me sort it out and ensure I made it to the mainland safely. It’s a real shame I had to cut my trip short and miss my second night (and another great breakfast) because of the weather, but I cannot appreciate his help enough. I would absolutely love to return. Highly recommended.
