I was impressed with the travelodge chelmsford. The room was basic but comfortable. It had plenty of space for me and my 2 children. The beds were comfortable and there was plenty of towels. The location was brilliant, so close to everything! And parking wasnt too expensive compared to other hotels. But what made the trip the best was the staff. Everyone there was friendly and helpful. Everyone greeted us, from cleaners to kitchen staff. Esme was especially welcoming and helpful and made my stay wonderful. But overall i can’t fault any of the staff. There was a lovely atmosphere there and it made my stay all the more enjoyable

We stayed at this Travel Lodge May 30-31st, 2026. The atmosphere reminded me of a Youth Hostel with the bare minimum. Without meaning to sound harsh but honest, it is the kind of place a 17 year old who drinks Red Bull, doesnt tidy up their room, and might spend all night playing video games on their phone might stay. In terms of food it is a very spartan eating and social environment for an adult but seems more appropriate for late teens/20 year olds 1who want to do some traveling and eating on the cheap. Staff was very nice,....but this place leaves alot to be desired. There were no vents in the bathroom to maximize air circulation. There were no vents in the room itself and the air was stale. The room was extremely hot (it felt like 99 degrees). To stay cool, we wet bathroom towels and uses these to keep our body temps down. There was one window that could only be opened about 4 inches but this did little to add fresh are to the room. There was a plastic tabletop fan but this did little to increase air circulation in the room. In fact, when we saw it, we noticed the dust accumulation - indicative of the dust level in the room, the poor circulating room air and dust accumulation. If you're young, care little for room comfort this place works well. I will say that this stay followed our stay at the London Mayfair Grovsenor/Soho hotel. More discriminating adult should definitely look elsewhere. I would recommend that they make some upgrades in amenities. Chelmsford is growing and deserves more.

Do not come here between April and October at least!!! The rooms are not equipped with a/c. It's 15°c outside rn and it's 32°c inside. I am writing this review in the bathtub with the water as cold as possible!!! It is also an incredibly expensive hotel for a travel lodge. Not to mention that parking and wi-fi are not included in the price!! This room is unbearable and we are moving first thing to the Braintree Travelodge that is equipped with a/c!! Europe is truly behind regarding this aspect. Please choose the BRAINTREE Travelodge which is better in every aspect and it has a direct bus line right at the hotel's doorstep. Edit: I wish to add that the reception staff has been extremely kind and professional everytime I came here. Poor them it is not their fault that the hotel's infrastructure is straight out of Chernobyl.

Caution: Avoid this Travelodge at all costs. The room’s temperature was excessively high. While the UK occasionally experiences heatwaves, the room lacked air conditioning, ventilation, and a feeble table fan that merely circulated hot air. The window’s opening was only approximately 4 inches, rendering it ineffective. Upon inquiring at the bar about obtaining a glass or ice, we were informed that the ice machine was malfunctioning. We also informed the staff that the room was excessively hot, to which they responded, “I am aware that it is not satisfactory.” Breakfast was priced at £10, but its value was significantly lower at approximately £3. The menu advertised vegetarian options, continental food, and other choices. However, all hot breakfast options consisted solely of meats, contradicting the advertised vegetarian options. There were only three cereal selections available, but croissants and bagels were not included, as advertised. I paid £10 for a bowl of cornflakes and three hash browns. Parking was charged at £7.50 per 24-hour period. Google clearly indicated that disabled parking was complimentary, and I requested the reception team to provide my registration. However, I was informed that this was not the case, as the parking facility was operated by a different company. I pointed out that Google search results contradicted this information. The shower in the room posed a safety hazard. It required careful adjustment of the hot and cold water to achieve the desired temperature, as any miscalculation could result in scalding. The bathtub was extremely slippery, necessitating caution to avoid falls. I nearly slipped and had to grasp the handrails to prevent an injury. Despite these issues, the staff were pleasant and greeted us upon passing.
