About Waun Fach Retreat

At the foot of Waun Fach, the highest peak in the Black Mountains, this solar-powered shepherd's hut occupies a truly remote corner of the Brecon Beacons National Park. Set within an International Dark Sky Reserve, it comes with a telescope for stargazing and a wood-fired hot tub for soaking under those famously clear night skies. A public footpath runs through the farm, connecting directly to mountain trails where splendid views reward the effort.

Inside, you'll find a kingsize bed, gas stove, and private composting toilet and shower – just bring your own bedding and towels. The firepit provides cooking fuel and evening atmosphere, while complete privacy means the only distractions are passing wildlife. Georgian Crickhowell, with its Grade I-listed castle and independent high street, sits 20 minutes' drive away, and the Sugar Loaf is reachable in 35 minutes.

Horse riders can arrange to bring their mounts, using the farm's bridleway that joins the Waun Fach trail. With excellent walks, lakes, and climbing all close by, outdoorsy types will find themselves in their element at this peaceful retreat.
