About Royal Ship Hotel
A proper Sunday roast is the thing people remember most about Royal Ship Hotel, a 23-room inn set on Queens Square in the heart of Dolgellau. The restaurant serves generous, varied menus alongside kids' meals and packed lunches for anyone heading out for the day, and there's a bar and garden with outdoor seating for a slower pace back at base.
Rooms are en-suite and comfortably furnished, with family and accessible options available and a lift serving the hotel's three floors; some guests have found the rooms run warm, so it's worth bearing in mind in summer. Staff are consistently described as friendly and helpful, and the hotel represents good value for what's on offer. There's no on-site parking, so guests arriving by car will need to make local arrangements.
Dolgellau itself sits within easy reach of Cadair Idris and the Mawddach Trail, with walking and cycling country on the doorstep and watersports and fishing nearby for the more active. Pubs, restaurants and entertainment in the town are all close by, and pets are welcome for those travelling with dogs in tow.

What guests say
Outstanding welcome and service during our visit from New Zealand last month. A clean and comfortable room with a view of Cadair Idris and Dolgellau Town Centre. Friendly staff, and a good breakfast available every morning. Staff went above and beyond, such as inviting family we were visiting to join us for breakfast one morning. Highly recommended, and we’ll be back next time we’re visiting Dolgellau. Thank you!

I wish I would have read the reviews on the Sunday lunch before going today. I've eaten here before and it was OK. Today it was disappointing, veg was hard, potatoes tasted like warm ups. No stuffing dispite it saying so on the menu. Roast carrots and parsnips were supposed to be maple roasted but seemed like they had 5 mins in an air fryer - just dry and hard. Beef was alright and the gravy was good. Would not go again.

We Stopped here for a bite to eat & a cheeky drink. I have to say, the friendly staff offer a fantastic service, & the food is absolutely faultless. Table service, dog friendly, so even a dog menu is offered. Our Bella enjoyed sharing our steak & lamb 😄. We will definitely be returning on our next trip through North Wales (which is regular) 100% worth a visit when passing by.

Our second stay at the Royal Ship, Dolgellau.... every bit as lovely as the first. We returned after a great visit in November, this time for a cosy post‑Christmas, New Year winter beach break with the doggo. It even snowed, which made the whole weekend feel extra magical. The location is fantastic: just 20 minutes from the beaches, with beautiful walks right on the doorstep for all abilities. The staff are attentive, genuinely dog‑friendly, and the menu offers great value with plenty of delicious choices. We’ve already booked to come back for Valentine’s weekend. 💝
