What visitors say
Beautiful castle with beautiful views over the city. Be *sure* to book your ticket in advance, it'll be a timed ticket. If you go on one of the hop-on-hop-off buses, you have access to tickets that are separate from the gen-pop tickets. (This is how we got in when it was marked as "sold out! We felt very lucky, because it was, in fact, sold out!) Be sure to reserve your audio tour headset ahead of time, if that's your thing. Normally we do, but this time we didn't feel like it, and that worked out just fine. Adults and children will love this castle. Take time to walk along the western fortification The queue to get in to see the crown jewels may look intimidating, but it moves along just fine. No stress. Everything is well organised and clearly indicated. The people who work there are lovely. Be sure to buy something from the gift shops as the money you spend goes to support charity.

This place was absolutely beautiful! I recommend to get your leg days in because it’s a lot of uphill walking on uneven ground! It’s a little crowded but not bad. I recommend not taking the audio guides and instead just reading the signs at the places themselves. I also recommend just grabbing a map and leading yourself around rather than with a tour guide.

Highly recommend a booked tour, the information & craic is fantastic. I booked mine through Viator, we met at st.giles & our guide was Toni. The facts, legends, myths Toni shared were amazing, even got a song at the end. Weather was good so the views were amazing. The history is so enjoyable you can't help "feeling it", the battles were immense. The 1 o'clock gun is all part of the history & experience. The Castle IS Edinburgh.

I was really not awarw that there was no way to find a ticket the very same day I wanted to visit the castle. I was incredibly lucky to find a ticket through a third party website. We were a small group and our guide David was very informative. I learnt a lot of interesting things about the castle and it's surroundings. I highly recommend to buy tickets in advance and if you have the option, take a guided tour. I would visit again.
