About River Wye Campsite
Right on the banks of the River Wye near Glasbury, this spacious campsite is perfectly pitched for outdoor adventurers and Hay Festival pilgrims alike. The adjacent activity centre offers canoeing, kayaking, paddleboarding, archery and even axe-throwing, while woodland walks lead straight from the pitches—ideal for keeping dogs exercised before settling in for weekend live music and street-food pop-ups. It's also just a 10-minute drive from Hay-on-Wye, making it a clever base for browsing the famous book town, especially during the late-May literary festival.
Non-electric grass pitches suit tents and campervans, and there's a covered communal area for rainy-day picnics. The Paddlers Rest Café serves full English breakfasts, cakes and ice cream, while the bar keeps things social. Reviewers love the beautiful riverside setting and helpful staff, though some note toilet facilities can feel limited during busy spells. Free-standing barbecues are welcome (raised off the grass, please), and kindling is sold on site. Dogs are allowed year-round, provided they're kept on leads.

What visitors say
I don’t usually leave a poor review as I don’t like to bad mouth a business but I hope this is constructive criticism as that’s my intention. The location is fantastic, easy to find and good access to the wye river, however that’s about all the good I have to say. We were pitched on a grass electric pitch, although relatively flat the grass was really in need of cutting as walking through it to use the facilities made my shoes soaking wet. The facilities are in major need of refurbishment, I came straight from work and was in need of a shower, I was greeted with two grubby showers and two toilet cubicles, one of which was not working. The shower itself although warm had no water pressure and lasted less than 20seconds before you had to push the button to start it again. A cafe on site was advertised so we didn’t bring anything for breakfast but when we went for breakfast we were told there was no chef so there was no food. Literally no food, unless you wanted a packet of crisps or an ice cream. It seems like it’s run on a skeleton crew and more geared towards being an activity centre than actual camping which is fine but the website makes it seem a lot better than it actually is. The staff I did come into contact were very nice and welcoming. I paid £86 for a two night stay and I don’t feel like it was worth it, I have stayed in far better campsites for a lot less money all over Britain. For that sort of money I expect better facilities, if it had been cheap I would have nothing to say but I feel a little hard done by. This place has potential to be fantastic and this review is honestly aimed at helping you achieve that. I haven’t added pictures as I feel that would be twisting the knife.

Second time returning! Great location, very close to the river. Showers and toilets are fine for camping! We hired a fire pit for the evening from the site which was delivered to our van and great to keep warm and toast marshmallows!! Thai pop up food was also really good and the cafe also does good drinks, ice creams and snacks. Having camped in our family van at various campsites, I particularly like this site due to the chilled, laid back atmosphere. Staff are really great and a big thank you to the guys who helped tow our van out at 8 pm on bank holiday due to our parking meaning it got stuck!! We will definitely return. Thanks for another great stay.

Came here for a family getaway and honestly, it was exactly what we needed. It’s peaceful, plenty of space, and the kids loved being able to explore right by the river. We booked a pitch with electric hookup, which was great for charging our bits. The showers were hot, and the loos were always clean. Even our dog had a great time! The whole place just has a friendly, welcoming vibe.

We stayed here as part of a stag weekend and it couldn’t have been better. Set up our tents with loads of room for the group, had a fire going by sunset, and the staff didn’t make a fuss as long as we were respectful. We did canoeing during the day, axe throwing on-site after, and finished at the café with drinks. Top weekend, top spot.
