About Foxhills of Shanklin

Foxhills is an adults-only guest house on Victoria Avenue in Old Shanklin, recently refurbished throughout. There are eight en-suite bedrooms, each styled individually, with fresh milk left in the room, feather pillows on request and the sort of small attentions that separate a well-run guest house from a budget hotel. One ground-floor room is set up for guests who cannot manage stairs.

The house has a fully licensed bar and terrace gardens, so you can have a drink without going out, plus a guest lounge with Freeview television and free Wi-Fi throughout. Free on-site parking - genuinely useful in Shanklin, where street parking is difficult - includes two electric car charging points. Bicycle storage is available for anyone riding the Island's routes.

Breakfast is cooked to order from a varied menu, with full English alongside vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options. The owners hold a Gold Green Tourism award and take the sustainability side seriously, and they will beat a rate quoted on the booking sites as well as arrange discounted ferry crossings, which can save a meaningful amount on a short break. A separate self-catering property sleeping eight to sixteen is let to groups.

Old Shanklin Village, with its thatched pubs and the entrance to Shanklin Chine, is a couple of minutes away, and the sandy beach and Esplanade are about fifteen minutes downhill on foot or via the cliff lift. Sandown, Ventnor and the walking country around Luccombe are all close. Foxhills suits couples and friends travelling together who want a quiet, well-kept base with a bar and parking, rather than a large hotel.

I had a lovely stay at Foxhills of Shanklin. The room was beautifully decorated and super comfortable. Everything I needed was right there, and it was clear a lot of thought had gone into the little details. Breakfast options are fantastic, the English breakfast was really tasty and set me up perfectly for a day of cycling around the island. The location is idyllic, only a short walk into the town and not far from the coast. Outside areas are lovely and peaceful, lots of wildlife and I even spotted a couple of red squirrels exploring the garden which was great to see. Joanne and Andrew are absolute stars. Warm, welcoming, and passionate about what they do. They go out of their way to make you feel at home and provide a first-class service. Highly recommended if you're heading to the island!

Our second year at Foxhills and it won’t be the last. From the minute you arrive Joanne & Andrew welcome you into their beautiful and tastefully decorated home. We stayed for the IoW festival, again, and the bus service is brilliant for getting to and from the festival and the rest of the island for that matter. Breakfast is 5 stars with traditional and delicious choices, including local produce. It really set us up for the day. My husband loved the full English and I enjoyed avocado toast with poached eggs, gorgeous fruit sundaes, natural yogurt and fluffy omelette amongst other delights! The bedrooms are lovely and each one uniquely decorated. So many pretty touches. Clean and comfortable. Outside there is a gorgeous garden which you can relax in with plenty of seating. Lovely stay with lovely people. Thank you

Perfect location slightly outside of Shanklin with only a short walk to the town center. Judith, Joanne, Rob and Andrew were fantastic hosts. They made us feel very welcome and could do enough for us, it really made our stay special. On booking we were told that not all the rooms had be updated and that our room was one that is still to be done, however, we found the room to be fantastic, it was clean and tidy, and although we read reviews that the shower had no power, it had been replaced two weeks prior to our stay and it was great. Breakfast was cooked to order with a long list to choose from. Everything was fresh, cooked well and well presented. Overall we had a fantastic stay and would return on our next visit to the island.

Very welcoming establishment. Breakfast was excellent with an extensive menu choice. The garden was a lovely place to sit with a drink in the evening and the old village of Shanklin, a short walk away, has numerous eateries - you do need to book in advance in peak season. Our room was well equipped and we had access to a fridge with supplies of fresh milk and water. Our room was a little tight on space but we were a late booking and we would book a bigger room next time. All in all an excellent few days away.
