About Keswick Country House Hotel

Built in the Victorian era and set in four acres of lawns and tended gardens on Station Road, Keswick Country House Hotel has a history stretching back to an 1895 garden party hosted by the Earl of Lonsdale, whose guests reportedly included Kaiser Wilhelm II. That grand backdrop now houses a comfortable, three-star hotel that trades more on space and setting than on formality.

The Lonsdale Restaurant serves breakfast and dinner overlooking the gardens, and the hotel's grounds give it more room to breathe than most properties this close to the centre of town. Bedrooms are traditionally furnished, with a range of standard and larger rooms available, and the hotel is popular with both walking groups and couples looking for a quieter stay without losing easy access to Keswick itself.

It is around a five-minute walk from the town centre and a similar distance from the old railway path that leads out towards Derwentwater, making it a practical, well-located base for exploring on foot.

The service throughout was exceptional. Friendly and helpful reception staff for whom nothing was too much. The bar and restaurant personnel were exceptionally efficient and proficient and likewise, nothing was too much trouble. As for the food, this was another level. A fabulous menu choice which changed daily and although we were a party of 17, all the dishes came out together and were piping hot. By far the best hotel restaurant food we have had for a long time. The rooms were spacious and well appointed, the beds comfy and with an abundance of pillows and cushions and for an old building, the showers are piping hot and have fabulous power. Very refreshing indeed. The bar and lounge areas are airy and spacious with contemporary design and furnishings and make for a great relaxation area to recover from the sumptuous three course menu with an aperitif. As for location, a short stroll gets you into the centre of Keswick which has everything that a visitor needs with great views across the lake and mountain range, weather permitting of course! It would be easy to knit pick a building that was constructed in the 1800’s and refurbishment is always an ongoing labour of love but everything about the hotel makes for a great stay but what does make it extraordinary is the quality of service from staff that clearly enjoy their work and are motivated to make your stay memorable and I cannot commend them highly enough.

We stayed at the hotel for three nights on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis. The service was exemplary throughout our stay. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was plentiful and delicious. The bar and wine prices were surprisingly low for a hotel. Easy access to Keswick. We would thoroughly recommend The Keswick Country House Hotel. Many thanks to all the staff for an excellent stay.

A great location but for the price it needs some attention to redecorate and update carpets. The breakfast was average and there is no food i.e cheese and biscuits in the bar area but the staff are fantastic. Would stay again but only if i could get the room at a lower price.

Great hotel near the centre of Keswick. Comfortable beds and very clean rooms. We did half board as do a lot of residents and the 3 course meal was delicious. All the staff were attentive and friendly.
