What guests say
The perfect house for a big family getaway to the lakes. This was our 6th time staying at Derwentwater. Location is perfect - short easy walk to all the amenities of Keswick but far enough away to feel like you’re not right in the hustle and bustle. Beautiful walk to Catbells. The chalet cafe just round the corner is perfect for brunch, lunch or coffee (also does great ice creams). Transport links are great. Lots to do on a rainy day (pencil museum, puzzle museum, Keswick museum). We explored the honister slate mine in a rainy day this year - huge hit with the kids. The crazy golf in Keswick is loved by the kids and you are right opposite a marina to hire boats. The little shepherd hut in the garden is hugely appreciated - we toasted marshmallows over the fire a couple of times. Hot tub we used. Games room downstairs also a hit. Safe to say we will be back!

We had a fantastic family get together at this wonderful house for 4 nights. We said this is the best place we have been to - we didn't want to leave! On arrival we appreciated the very generous welcome hamper and the chance to meet the accommodation manager Lucie, who was very helpful throughout our stay. The accommodation was spotless, well maintained and ideal for our group of 18, with the House plus the Lodge providing 11 rooms all ensuite, except for 2 rooms sharing in the Lodge. The rooms were all good sized, well appointed rooms including some lovely rooms and large suites with roll top or spa baths. The huge dining table was well used as we did our own thing during the day, then all came together for dinner. We cooked in the well equipped kitchen and ordered home delivery from COOK online which was easy to do. The garden grounds were extensive with lots of places to enjoy the sunshine and magnificent views across Derwentwater, and a game of badminton! We all walked into Keswick, a great thriving town and well worth a visit. We enjoyed the market stalls and the lovely Hope Park - the crazy golf was a fun activity! Some of us ventured out for a walk from the House up to Catbells, highly recommended for any walkers, although a rocky section right at the top was a challenge for some. Others enjoyed a visit to see the walled garden, alpacas and have lunch at the Lingholm Estate, just a short walk from the House. Some of the group spent an adventurous morning at the nearby Go Ape Whinlatter, and some hired rowing boats and canoes from Nichol End Marine to go onto Derwentwater and visit St Herbert's Isle. The local pub in the village had a lively beer garden and the youngsters enjoyed a night out in the pubs of Keswick, while the rest of us relaxed in the comfort of the House and hot tub! We would highly recommend this property for large, mixed age groups (ours was teenage to 80+) it offers something for everyone. Thank you, we really hope to be back!

Nice big property, great location right opposite the lake and boat yard / activity centre. Big house with hot tub and plenty of room. Great drawing room for relaxing and beautiful gardens and plenty of bbq facilities. Negatives were the drains smell emanating from the kitchen throughout the ground floor and the constant invasion of flys, we had to buy spray and cover everything up. Kitchen tired and needs updating. Generally house needs updating to warrant the rental price.

Fabulous house for a celebration / family / friends get together. The dining room is great, the two big lounges are wonderful for relaxing and the games rooms were a real success. It was wonderful having so many bedrooms all en-suite and the Lodge proved just right for the young adults in our multi generational party.Everything we needed was provided and the gorgeous Christmas decorations were the icing on the cake. We also loved the hot tub and alpine lodge with the fire pit. We had a fantastic time and can highly recommend this wonderful property.
