The Resident Liverpool sits in a converted industrial building on Seel Street in the Ropewalks, the grid of former warehouse streets that now holds most of the city's independent bars and restaurants. It traded as The Nadler Liverpool until April 2019, when the group rebranded, and it has held the number one position on TripAdvisor's Liverpool hotel list across more than 7,500 reviews for much of the time since.

The proposition is deliberately narrow. There are 106 rooms and suites, all with hand-made pocket-sprung mattresses, en-suite bathrooms and, most usefully, a mini-kitchen with a fridge, a Nespresso machine and Fairtrade teas. The fridge can be pre-stocked with groceries before arrival. What the hotel does not have is a restaurant, a bar or room service; instead guests get discounts at a list of nearby independents, which given the location is a reasonable trade. The lobby keeps the original exposed brick and industrial windows and there is commissioned artwork throughout.

Air conditioning runs throughout, reception is staffed 24 hours, and rates include free national telephone calls, a hangover from the Nadler era. Rooms are efficiently rather than generously sized, and the quietest are those away from Seel Street itself, which is one of the noisier addresses in Liverpool on a Friday or Saturday night. Anyone sensitive to noise should say so when booking.

For position it is hard to beat at the price. Concert Square is five minutes away, Chinatown and Bold Street are on the doorstep, Liverpool ONE and the Royal Albert Dock are a ten-minute walk and Lime Street station about the same. It suits couples, solo travellers and business guests who want a well-run room in the middle of everything rather than hotel facilities they will not use.
