A Castle Street hotel in central Luton, best known for its pub restaurant's Indian menu alongside traditional classics.

About The Red Lion Hotel

Castle Street sits in the heart of Luton, close to transport links and the usual mix of pub, restaurant and entertainment options that make up the town centre, and it's here that The Red Lion Hotel makes its home. The setting is thoroughly urban rather than scenic, but convenient for anyone wanting to be near the action without straying far.

Rooms come with en-suite bathrooms, drinks available on request, and free WiFi, though some have been reported as not always well kept, so it's worth setting expectations accordingly. Guests get 24 hour reception and luggage storage, along with meeting rooms for those travelling on business. Breakfast is served on site, and there's a bar for a quiet drink.

The main draw is the restaurant, which pairs pub classics with an Indian menu that regulars single out for its generous portions and dishes such as mixed grill and paneer masala. Service is friendly and prices are fair, with outdoor seating available for warmer days and kids' meals catered for. Beyond the hotel, a golf course, pubs, bars and further restaurants are all within easy reach.

We had such a wonderful visit here! I ordered the delicious paneer tikka with butter naan and chilli naan – everything tasted absolutely amazing, full of flavour and perfectly cooked. My friend tried the broccoli sukh angar and loved it too. The service was brilliant! Kapil looked after us so well, he was friendly, attentive and made our experience really special. We’ll definitely be coming back again!

We had a really lovely evening at The Red Lion in Luton. The Indian food was excellent – fresh, flavourful, and generously portioned. We were particularly impressed with the mixed grill and the curry; both were standout dishes with perfectly balanced spices and great quality ingredients. The service was genuinely great throughout – friendly, efficient, and attentive. Special mention to the manager, who was charming, welcoming, and made sure everything was spot on. It’s that personal touch that makes a big difference. We’ll definitely be back when we’re in the area again in December. Highly recommended!Happy Punter

Had a great experience at The Red Lion! The food was excellent and the service was top-notch. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the staff make you feel looked after from the moment you walk in. A special mention to Kapil, who was incredibly friendly and helpful, and to the manager, Tej Sir, who showed great professionalism and ensured everything ran smoothly. We ordered the Bombay mix, paneer tikka, and chilli paneer — all were delicious and well-prepared. Overall, a very pleasant dining experience, and I’d happily visit again!

Since its take over this place started slowly for a few months . Since then it has found a great level . Very very good staff. Not an Indian Cuisine lover but being a Luton local for a long time have heard nothing but praise for the food. Sport if you like it on TV but discerningly put on with some excellent background music. Prices on drink very good . These people have lifted this place up from the previous owners and deserve to be merited on their achievements. Know nothing about the hotel but as a pub/ restaurant t and it's staff are friendly and very competent. Definitely the best place in Luton by a margin.
