About Macdonald Tickled Trout Hotel
Macdonald Tickled Trout Hotel suits travellers who want a straightforward, comfortable stopover rather than a destination in itself: motorway drivers breaking a journey, business guests needing meeting space, or families passing through the North West who fancy a river view. Set beside the River Ribble near Preston, it backs onto walking country close to Brockholes Nature Reserve, giving arriving guests a stretch of the legs before checking in.
The hotel has 98 rooms across three floors, all en-suite, with family rooms available and a lift for easier access. Some rooms show their age, so this is a place valued more for convenience and comfort than styling. Beds are a strong point, and breakfast makes use of local produce, served alongside a restaurant, bar, snack bar and outdoor seating for warmer days. Service can be slow at busier times, worth bearing in mind if you're on a tight schedule.
Facilities extend to a gym, room service, laundry service and meeting rooms, plus an electric vehicle charge point and on-site parking, though this comes at an extra charge. Golf, fishing, horse riding and pubs are all within reach nearby, and the riverside setting makes it easy to combine an overnight stay with time outdoors along the Ribble.
What guests say
Closed for refurbishment to house migrants apparently. What a waste of a lovely hotel. Last time we went which was around a year ago with my partner it was situated nicely, easy to get to with good facilities and friendly staff.

Had a private family dinner to celebrate my sister's birthday, and stayed overnight. The hotel is well situated just off the M6 and easy to find. Our dinner was tasty and the portions are generous. The service was exceptional and we felt very well looked after. Our room was reasonably large if a little "tired". Bathroom was good and had quality toiletries provided. A very good stay.

The hotel was in an ideal location for our overnight stay. We had our evening meal there which was freshly cooked, large portions and overall a delicious meal. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel is a good price for what you get - don't expect 'The Grand' if you are not paying those prices! The rooms are a little tired and in need of a revamp. Had to pay for overnight parking, it cost £5 so still cheaper than other places! I would stay there again without hesitation.
