About Holiday Inn Express Stevenage
A cooked breakfast with notably good bacon is one of the small things that sets Holiday Inn Express Stevenage apart from the average chain stay. The hotel sits on Danestrete in the centre of Stevenage, spread across six floors with 129 rooms, and is built for straightforward, comfortable stopovers rather than fuss.
Rooms come with en-suite bathrooms and in-room drinks, and family rooms and accessible rooms are both available for those who need them. There's a lift to every floor, a restaurant and bar on site, a snack bar for lighter bites, and kids' meals for younger guests. Meeting rooms make it a practical choice for business visitors too, and pets are welcome. Note that there's no parking available at the property, so onward travel needs a bit of planning.
Staff are generally helpful and the location convenient, close to a pub or bar, restaurants and other eateries nearby, though a handful of guests have found service inconsistent at times. Overall it's a fair-value base in Stevenage, with breakfast and comfortable rooms among its strongest points.
What guests say
Everything was quick and easy, from booking to check-in and check out. Rooms are quite small but you have everything needed. We appreciate that we were given a baby cot without asking, so they pay attention to little details from the booking which is very nice. Plenty of choices at breakfast, good coffee machine. Overall price - quality, very good, we were happy.

If it's a stop over and you are travelling by train then this is ideal. Rooms comfortable and quiet. Staff great and the usual help yourself breakfast. Around the hotel is bleak as alot closed but you are only a short walk from old town that has everything you need.

No AC! We only booked this hotel because of air conditioning in the rooms but the AC is out and, according to receptionists, will be out for another “several weeks probably”. Got a small table fan instead. It helps but rooms are still really hot (stay during heat wave). The window can only be opened slightly. Rooms and lobby are not as clean as I would like. Only one elevator is working. Bathrooms need updating. Size of the rooms is good.

Do not stay at Holiday Inn Express in Stevenage. I had a very bad experience and felt that I was treated in a discriminatory and racist manner as a non-white guest. On two different days, I had situations where multiple staff members approached me in a way that felt intimidating and unprofessional. It felt like they were ganging up on me, which made me extremely uncomfortable. The manager, Tom, also seemed unable to handle the situation properly. The hotel itself is not well maintained and was very dirty, which is unacceptable. There are also issues with parking, as staff appear to park illegally while claiming ownership of the property, which is confusing and unprofessional. I also felt uncomfortable during my stay due to disturbances at night, including staff knocking on doors, which is inappropriate—especially if a woman is alone. Overall, I felt unsafe, disrespected, and discriminated against. This is one of the worst experiences I have ever had. I will be reporting this to the relevant authorities regarding racism, discrimination, and poor conduct. Under the Equality Act 2010 Hotels are considered service providers, meaning they are legally responsible for preventing discrimination against guests based on protected characteristics, including age, disability, gender reassignment, race, religion, sex, or sexual orientation.
