A 180-year-old farmstead converted into holiday cottages, Sharp Edge is a first-floor apartment with one bedroom and bathroom, sleeping two. The building began as a working farm and spent much of the 20th century as a guest house before its surrounding farm buildings were transformed into individual units, each keeping period character intact.
Inside, there is a living room with a television and electric fire, a dining room, and a kitchen with electric cooking, microwave and dishwasher. The bedroom has a zip-and-link super king bed (can be split into two singles on request). Heating, electricity, bed linen and wifi are included; towels are provided. A shared external utility room with tumble dryer is accessible nearby. One dog stays free, and there is private parking for one car on site, plus an electric vehicle charging point.
The apartment sits within seven acres of landscaped grounds shared with other properties, with a large garden area and seating. The courtyard location is peaceful and rural, set back down a farm drive in Westmorland and Furness. Penrith and Keswick are within reach by car, as is Ullswater. No smoking indoors.

I am not sure what to say when reviewing a hiking route. Sharp Edge is not for the faint of heart, if you have any issues with height this not for you, if you freeze on the ridge it will be difficult to get off it. There are some scary bits, and some areas of smooth stone. Please only attempt this in the correct gear, as a minimum hiking boots with grip and sensible trousers and clothing it can be cold and windy. Recommend some gloves for extra grip. I would not attempt in high winds, rain or icy conditions. There is an alternate path the other side of the lake.

Simply one of the best grade 1 scrambles in England. This is a lower grade scramble but it is exposed so only consider doing it if you are with an experienced group or leader. The reward on a sky blue day is a scrambling fest of good quality dry rock, great views and of course super fun. An absolutely top day out!

This is a wonderful route, however you have to have experience to climb this! It is very dangerous! Assess your capabilities and the weather as you’ll need a nice calm and dry day!

Beautiful walk and some vertigo-inducing scrambles! It’s a short but fairly challenging hike from Scales or Threlkeld, covering 800m of elevation in under 5km (10km for a return trip). Make sure you are wearing suitable clothes and shoes, as many parts of the scramble are fairly technical. Some areas have an alternative walking paths running along the bottom, but I’m not sure how well they connect as we scrambled the whole way :)
